ChampionX has an immediate need for a highly motivated Lead Chemist in our Reservoir Chemical Technologies RD&E group located in Sugar Land, Texas. The Lead Chemist will provide technical solutions to our customers and lead new product development related to the cementing & drilling product lines. The Lead Chemist will also support field evaluation at customer sites, manufacturing and supply chain support, and customer-facing technical support. What You Will Do:

  • Perform work in a safe manner while identifying opportunities for continuous improvement.
  • Deliver innovative solutions to customer problems related to Cementing & Drilling applications.
  • Develop new Cementing & Drilling products through synthesis, formulation, and testing.
  • Manage mid-high complexity projects once established.
  • Support entire product life cycle, including both laboratory and field technical support.
  • Communicate technical recommendations or test results to a wide range of audiences including internal and external customers
  • Work effectively in a team environment with cross-functional members.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Ph.D. in Chemistry, Geology, Chemical Engineering, Petroleum Engineering or related fields with minimum 3 years of experience; or M.S. in Chemistry, Geology, Chemical Engineering, Petroleum Engineering, or related fields with minimum 5 years of experience; or a B.S. with minimum 9 years of experience.
  • Experience formulating products for the oil and gas or related industries.
  • Ability to operate independently and as a part of a high-functioning team.
  • Ability to work with business counterparts to support our customers and new technology adoption.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience in well construction and completion (application, formulation and/or testing).
  • Experience with cementing additives such as but not limited to fluid loss additives, retarders, antifoamers, and expanding agents.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and track record of successful innovation in the form of conference papers and/or patents.
  • Product development experience with taking a product from lab scale to commercial scale.
  • Prior experience with mentoring and training other scientists.
  • Detail orientated and excellent time management skills
  • Excellent written, oral, and visual communication skills to communicate effectively with all levels of the organization, both within and outside the business
