THE OPPORTUNITY  

Join BCI as a Senior Manager in Global Investment Communications. We're seeking two strategic communicators to partner with our Capital Markets & Infrastructure and Private Equity teams. Based in Victoria, BC, you'll serve as a trusted advisor to our investment teams, translating complex financial strategies into compelling narratives for internal stakeholders, external audiences, and clients. DEPARTMENT DESCRIPTION 

The Office of the Chief Operating Officer (COO) oversees day-to-day corporate operations which support the investment activity of approximately $300B of gross assets under management. The Office of the COO encourages strong relationships with clients and the financial community, finds efficiencies in our systems and processes, ensures that we meet our Three-Year Business Plan objectives, and adheres to best practices in business operations planning. The COO is responsible for the overall management and strategic direction of the Operations group at BCI, which includes the following business functions: Corporate Data & Operations, Corporate Risk & Audit, Finance, Investment Operations, and Technology.  

The Office of the Chief Operating Officer provides strategic oversight and operational excellence across BCI's enterprise functions, ensuring alignment with organizational priorities and effective execution of business strategy. 

The Global Communications function operates within the Office of the COO and plays a crucial role in maintaining and enhancing BCI's relationships with its clients and stakeholders through world-class strategic engagement. Global Communications is responsible for managing BCI's brand, reputation, media relations, global profile, and industry partnerships. The function communicates effectively with both internal and external audiences, representing BCI's interests and strategic priorities. Overall, the Global Communications function is vital for ensuring stakeholder satisfaction, organizational alignment, reputation protection, and the organization's long-term success. 

 

WHO YOU WILL WORK WITH  

The Global Investment Communications team is responsible for communications that advance BCI’s position as a leading global investor. With deep expertise in institutional asset management, private markets, capital markets, and investment operations, the team supports all asset classes, and the regions in which BCI operates. Communications Business Partners (CBPs) work closely with investment teams, providing strategic counsel and driving global communications and stakeholder engagement strategies that build BCI’s brand and strengthen our reputation, drive business performance, and reinforce our culture. 

Under the Director's leadership, the Global Investment Communications team manages media relations, thought leadership, content strategies, transaction communications while carefully navigating issues, operating as a strategic function that translates sophisticated investment strategies into clear, compelling narratives. The team is vital for ensuring client satisfaction and building BCI’s global investment brand 

POSITION DESCRIPTION 

Reporting to the Director of Global Investment Communications, we are recruiting two Senior Managers to manage communications for investing asset classes: 

Senior Manager – Capital Markets & Credit Investments and Infrastructure & Renewable Resources: Communications Business Partner to Infrastructure & Renewable Resources and Capital Markets & Credit Investments departments advising across investment strategies and programs, providing communications counsel to support business objectives. 

Senior Manager – Private Equity: Communications Business Partner to the Private Equity department advising across investment strategies and programs, providing communications counsel to support business objectives. 

Both roles integrate deeply within investment teams, and across Global Investment Communications, to develop and lead integrated communications plans (encompassing internal, external and client-facing deliverables) for asset classes, ensuring alignment with their objectives and BCI's overall strategy 

 

WHAT YOU BRING  

Education and Professional Background 

  • Post-secondary education in business, communications, public relations, journalism, or related field 

  • 8+years of communications experience, with 5+ in financial services or institutional investing, and 5+ years in a leading role 

  • Detailed understanding of institutional investing, specifically across public and private markets [capital markets, private credit and infrastructure and renewables resources investing] 

  • Experience engaging and partnering with institutional investment teams managing billions in assets, as well as navigating high-stakes media relations and complex reputational issues 

  • Exceptional writing and media relations capabilities 

  • Track record of developing impactful communications plans aligned with business priorities to drive specified outcomes; experience providing communication counsel to portfolio companies an asset 

  • Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to communicate and work collaboratively  

  • Ability to develop relationships and navigate a complex global organization that operates in a fast-paced environment 

  • People leadership skills including an ability to lead and develop a high-performing team, and cultivate a positive team culture; experience in coaching, team building, and mentoring 

  • Proficiency in using AI as well as media and digital analytics tools  

 

WHAT YOU WILL DO  

Partnership & Planning 

  • Works closely with the Director, Global Investment Communications to implement BCI's investment communications strategy that supports business activities, partner relationships and global profile 

  • As the Communications Business Partner, integrates deeply within asset classes and has a comprehensive understanding of their strategic priorities, goals, challenges, and market context 

  • Serves as a trusted, proactive advisor to asset classes across investment strategies and programs, providing communications counsel to support business objectives 

  • Develops, leads, and regularly reviews integrated communications plans (encompassing internal, external and client facing deliverables) for asset classes, ensuring alignment with their objectives and BCI's overall strategy 

  • Using content performance analytics, advises the Director on the perceptions and expectations of various stakeholders to continuously optimize investment communications and execution  

  • Operates as a member of the global media relations team, contributing to asset class and enterprise-wide initiatives  

Communications Coordination & Delivery 

  • Serves as the primary "front door" into the asset classes and acts as an internal Subject Matter Expert for the larger Global Communications team, including for BCI’s investment education initiatives as well as corporate publications 

  • Coordinates resources from across the larger Communications team (e.g., for content optimization, execution, publication, event coordination) as required 

  • Works with internal partners to ensure that every campaign is measurable, leveraged across all channels and stakeholders; reviews quarterly reporting to ensure accuracy 

Media Relations & Transaction Support 

  • Leads global media relations activities for Infrastructure & Renewable Resources and Capital Markets & Credit Investments or Private Equity, managing inquiries and proactive outreach  

  • Provides communications and media relations guidance for transactions and other asset class announcements  

  • Develops and maintains strong working relationships with industry media 

Issues & Crisis Management 

  • Establishes processes to proactively identify and manage emerging issues relating to investments and portfolio companies 

  • Coordinates the response to emerging issues, developing and implementing communications plans to mitigate impact on BCI’s reputation 

  • Contributes to BCI’s crisis communication plan, and advises the Director on communication response to crisis situations relevant to asset classes 

  • Provides communication counsel, as required, to portfolio companies within asset classes 

  • Partners, as required, with the Director and government relations and legal, relating to regional or asset class specific issues 

Regional Profile Building  

  • Accountable for developing and implementing communication plans, including key messaging, as well as content, digital and media relations approaches to strengthen BCI's investment profile globally 

  • Builds market knowledge and relationships to expand BCI's international presence and support sustainable growth 

  • Partners, as needed, with government relations to approve any external messaging in the region 

  • Coordinates across Global Investment Communications to ensure integrated and consistent messaging and strategic alignment  

Team Leadership 

  • Leads, manages, and develops a high-performing team 

  • Oversees the performance management process for direct reports, providing coaching, mentoring, and development opportunities 

  • Fosters a culture of innovation and continuous improvement, evaluating emerging technologies and approaches that can enhance communications effectiveness and efficiency 

 

WHERE YOU WILL WORK

There is a strong preference for the role to be based in Victoria, BC, however, other offices may be considered for qualified candidates. Travel to other BCI offices as needed (estimated 10-15% of time); international travel may be required for investor meetings and conferences. 

WORKING HOURS & GLOBAL SCOPE 

Given the global nature of these roles, flexibility in working hours is expected to support communications needs across global markets and time zones. While a standard business day is based in Victoria, you will have flexibility to adjust your schedule to effectively partner with investment teams and manage media relations across different regions and markets. This may include occasional early starts, late finishes, or weekend availability depending on business priorities and global market activity. 

 

SALARY RANGE  

The annualized base salary range for this role is CAD $124,000 to $155,000. 

BCI offers a competitive total rewards package, including a performance-based incentive plan, comprehensive health & dental benefits, a defined benefit pension plan, and paid time off. We pay our people competitively in the markets in which we operate and with consideration for internal equity and job structure. The base salary will consider factors such as the individual's skill set, experience, and internal equity. We aim for actual pay to be around the market median for expected performance and the upper quartile for excellent performance. Actual salaries may vary based on experience and expertise.
