Job Description Summary

The Senior Project Control Manager will lead a Project Controls team, and his/her role is to lead the team for planning, development and management of project schedule and cost, aligning with all functions for HVDC/ACS/FACTs projects in India to achieve the project performance goals in accordance with the contract and the project execution strategy provided by Project Directors / Senior Project Manager / Management. You are expected to provide leadership to strategically manage schedule and cost, associated risks and opportunities. The role works within a well-defined operations framework with varying complexity levels.

Job Description

Roles and Responsibilities

Key member of the Region Management team to support on Project Governance around Project Portfolio of HVDC/ACS/FACTS projects. Leading and driving cost control activities and reporting status to the Project teams and Region Leadership.

Schedule Control:

  • Drives Project Controllers to develop and maintain the overall strategy of project schedule by integrating inputs from all functions, units and third parties contributing to the project.

  • Ensures communication about the schedule status to the Project Director, Project Manager, supplier and third parties.

  • Guides the team to provide schedule analysis to determine project schedule risks and opportunities then works with project team members to drive risk mitigation strategies.

  • Use judgment to make decisions or solve complex tasks or problems in areas of stakeholder management. Takes new perspective on existing solutions.

  • Supports development of look ahead, backlog reporting, analytics with prioritizations to clearly communicate potential and real risk and drive the project priorities.

  • Leads team to align contractually with customer requirements and can communicate directly with customers on scheduling matters.

  • Ensures Preparation of critical path analysis and drives action on multiple critical and near critical paths.

  • Supports Generation of “what if” scenarios to optimize execution and works with project teams to evaluate feasibility.

  • Use technical experience and expertise to drive team for data analysis to support recommendations with multiple internal and limited external sources outside of own function to arrive at decisions

  • Lead & coach a multi-cultural cross-functional team to strive for project success.

  • Sets up and secures the necessary resources for the project control activities. Support the organization of the project team.

  • Monitor the Key Performance Indicators of the project team and continuously enables improvement.

Cost Control:

  • Leads cost controlling function to ensure clear alignment between cost and schedule to ensure accurate project execution.

  • Support change order analysis with schedule analytics and forecasts.

  • Ensures management and monitoring of resource loading into the project schedule to ensure adequacy and conformance to planned cost.

  • Ensures the project cost are managed with global standard tools and processes

  • Ensures budgeted values are aligned with historical performance

  • Reviews project scope, schedule, functional execution and progress to identify cost risks and opportunities and possible mitigation actions.

  • Provide cost analytics using project information with cost functional owners to drive / support risk mitigation.

  • Ensures Project Controllers own and drive the Budget Deviation Process with tools.

  • Drives a regular cost operating rhythm to discussion risk and opportunities.

  • Support development of cost forecasts based on functional input and analytics, challenges functional estimates where needed.

  • Checks and controls cost movements, compares with current scope and progress as well as with previous forecast.  Also Compares with productivity factors and validates accuracy of estimates.

  • Ensures Presentation of all financial data in a transparent way, attends project and management review to present cost status and actions.

  • Supports Alignment with Finance Controller to ensure reconciliation takes place between approved project financial data and books.

  • Ensures availability of time-based cost forecasts to support revenue recognition.

  • Support change order analysis and claim preparation.

Required Qualifications/Skills:

  • Degree Level or equivalent in Engineering or equivalent knowledge or experience.

  • Minimum 12+ years of previous Project Control / Scheduling / Cost Controlling experience preferably with HVDC projects valued over 50 M$.

  • As part of a project team, several years of experience in planning, scheduling and controlling.

  • Knowledge in application of planning control principles (WBS, critical path, progress, resource loading), Primavera P6, Contract management – EOT preparation and supported negotiations, Risk Management, experience with CPA and EOT/ Delay Analysis.

  • Good Communication Skills (Fluent English Spoken and written)

Desired Characteristics:

  • Technical knowledge in electrical grids and ideally power electronics / HVDC will be an advantage.

  • Ability to work on multiple tasks whilst maintaining accuracy within set time limits.
