Ingredion is hiring a Food Applications Technologist to lead and support innovation projects in a cross-functional team environment, including new ingredient development and applications research for the Dairy and Alternative Dairy category. The candidate is also responsible for supporting pilot plant operations and working with category leaders to support the design and commercialization of new products and innovative solutions against business objectives.
Core Responsibilities:
- Developing formulations in category applications to meet customer needs while encouraging collaboration and experimentation.
- Managing projects by planning, designing, and conducting experiments & trials in the laboratory and pilot plant, and conducting data analysis to understand relationships between structure/function and application performance.
- Working with Marketing, Technical Service, Global Key Accounts, and other cross-functional teams to drive new business opportunities and customer projects in the category.
- Completing technical project reports and presentations, and providing project status updates, plans, milestones, and outcomes to stakeholders as required.
- Partnering with Applications food category leaders to optimize ways of working for seamless execution of pilot plant activities.
- Collaborating with Applications and Technical Service stakeholders to align pilot plant capability needs and plans to execute capability initiatives.
- Staying engaged with industry information and developing relationships and networks within research and professional organizations.
- Preparing and delivering internal and external trainings, presentations and technical documentation to demonstrate and communicate product performance and Ingredion innovation capabilities.
- Staying abreast of the technology environment (established and emerging technologies, market trends, IP landscape), conducting prior art searches (e.g., literature, patents), and working to proactively seek and pursue IP opportunities to protect Ingredion’s stake in new and promising ingredients and food applications.
- Applying analytical methods to characterize the attributes of formulated food and beverage products and coordinate more extensive testing with Sensory, Analytical, and Texture teams when required.
Qualified candidates will have:
- Bachelor’s degree in Food Science, Food Engineering or Chemical Engineering or similar field with a minimum 1-2+ years relevant work experience in conducting research for Dairy applications.
- Experience and knowledge in Dairy applications formulation and dairy unit operations preferred (including yogurt and fermented milk products, cheese, ready to drink beverages, ice cream, and their plant-based alternatives).
- Experience in commercializing technologies and/or products. Creative problem solver with a drive for invention, innovation, and taking ownership of work.
- Collaborative spirit with willingness to join a global team.
- Thorough understanding and awareness of food safety, quality, and regulatory aspects and the ability to systematically integrate them into application design.
- Experience with experimental design, statistical data analysis, and interpretation of results.
- Excellent verbal and written technical communication skills, including writing technical reports and delivering high impact presentations internally.
- Demonstrated ability to effectively communicate and interact across functions and to influence stakeholders to gain alignment on project objectives and plans, with an ability to work with shifting priorities.
- Up to 20% (primarily Domestic ) Travel required to run tests at external facilities, visit other Ingredion facilities, visit customers and attend conferences.
