SUMMARY

The Data Governance and Operations Architect is responsible for establishing and maintaining the frameworks and strategies that ensure data accuracy, legality, and usability across the company. This role involves defining data standards, policies, and procedures while also implementing systems and technologies to streamline data operations. Additionally, this role will collaborate with multiple teams at JOANN including IT, Legal and Compliance to ensure regulatory requirements are met. The Data Governance and Operations Architect ensures high quality data throughout JOANN and implements solutions to ensure quality remains high.

JOB DUTIES

  • Data Governance & Stakeholder Engagement:
    • Develop and maintain a robust data governance framework that includes data policies, standards, and practices to ensure data integrity and compliance with laws and regulations.
    • Collaborate with IT, legal, compliance, and business units to define data requirements and ensure governance activities align with organizational strategies and regulatory obligations.
  • Data Quality & Risk Management:
    • Monitor, analyze, and report on data quality metrics. Identify areas for data quality improvement and help to implement solutions to enhance the overall quality of data.
    • Monitor data management practices and systems to identify and mitigate risks associated with data handling and compliance as well as ensure enterprise-wide consistency.
  • Training & Advocacy:
    • Educate and train stakeholders on the importance of data governance and promote a culture of data quality and accuracy throughout the organization.

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE

Education Minimum: Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Statistics, Information Systems or Analytics or related field

Education Preferred: Masters or Doctorate in Computer Science, Statistics, Information Systems or Analytics or related field

Experience Minimum: 3-5 years of experience with cloud computing and/or SnowSQL, Snowpark, Microsoft Azure Machine Learning. Experience with data architecture techniques. Experience with data integration, ETL processes, and working with large datasets 

Experience Preferred: 6+ years of advanced data modeling/ programming experience with Python and SQL. Proficiency with data integration, ETL processes, and working with large datasets. Advanced experience with cloud computing and/or SnowSQL, Snowpark. Proficiency with version controlling, GitHub, Gitlab 

WORKING CONDITIONS

  • This role requires in-person attendance 4 days a week at the Store Support Center (SSC) located in Hudson, OH. Flexibility to work remotely when requested is determined by management and business needs.
  • Sit or stand at a workstation for extended periods while maintaining focus and productivity.
  • Move around an office space and between buildings on a large campus, including reaching for files, retail product, supplies, or equipment, as well as the ability to adapt to various workstation setups.
  • Work standard business hours and extended hours as needed based on task and project demands.
  • Utilization of all communication styles - written, verbal, electronic options.
  • Lift and carry office supplies, documents, retail product or equipment weighing up to 20 pounds as needed for tasks such as organizing or setting up workstations.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES

  • Strong technical skills in statistics
  • Advanced abilities in some of or all the following: Python, SQL, R, Excel, Snowflake.
  • Proficiency with querying data on querying platforms and/or utilizing SQL. 
  • Strong problem-solving skills
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to effectively present complex findings to non-technical stakeholders
  • Extensive experience with Microsoft Product Suite including developer and how to access and transmit data into and out of Excel Spreadsheets
  • Expertise in data cleansing and transformation
  • Creative thinking when working with data and solving problem 
  • Tableau/ Power BI skillset
  • MS Office Products
