The Next Generation Technology group of Northrop Grumman Corporation (CO) which reports into the Chief Information Office (CIO) is seeking an exceptionally talented, motivated, and innovative Manager of the Innovation and Automation Factory, responsible for supporting the organization’s vision, strategy, execution plan and talent pipeline and synergy.

Job Summary:

We are seeking a dynamic and forward-thinking Software Manager 2 to lead our Software, Automation, and Innovation team. This individual will drive the execution of our automation strategy through cutting-edge technology initiatives, including crowdsourced innovation, university partnerships, and strategic collaborations. The ideal candidate will be responsible for fostering a culture of innovation and hyper-automation, utilizing technologies such as RPA, generative AI, and process mining to transform our business operations. This role will also focus on enabling citizen development and ensuring our business units are empowered with the tools and expertise to drive transformation across the enterprise.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Crowdsourced Innovation: Develop and lead initiatives to gather innovative ideas from employees across the company and external sources, fostering a culture of continuous improvement and creativity.
  • University Engagement & Strategic Partnerships: Build and maintain relationships with universities and external partners to drive innovation, research collaborations, and recruitment pipelines.
  • Hyper-Automation Strategy: Drive the execution of our hyper-automation strategy by leveraging RPA, generative AI, and process mining to identify and implement automation opportunities that improve business efficiency and reduce costs.
  • Citizen Development Enablement: Create and manage programs that empower business units to develop their own automation solutions (citizen development), providing them with the necessary tools, guidance, and training.
  • Process Optimization: Work closely with cross-functional teams to identify inefficiencies and design automation solutions that streamline workflows and enhance operational effectiveness.
  • Leadership and Team Development: Lead a team of developers and automation experts, guiding them to deliver innovative solutions that align with business objectives. Foster a culture of learning, experimentation, and continuous improvement within the team.
  • Collaboration with IT & Business Units: Partner with IT and business units to ensure automation solutions are seamlessly integrated, secure, and aligned with overall company goals.
  • Metrics and Performance Tracking: Establish KPIs and metrics to measure the success and impact of automation initiatives, driving accountability and continuous refinement.

Basic Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in a STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, or Mathematics) discipline from an accredited university with 8 years of experience OR a Masters Degree in a STEM discipline with 6 years of experience OR a PhD in a STEM discipline with 3 years of relevant experience.
  • Prior agile software team leadership experience and experience leading innovation focused teams
  • Experience designing, developing, integrating, verifying, and qualifying digital products with software and systems engineering.
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills, with a demonstrated ability to work across business and technical teams.
  • Proven track record in managing automation projects, including RPA, AI/ML, process mining, or similar technologies.
  • Experience with crowdsourced innovation platforms and fostering partnerships with universities or external organizations.
  • Knowledge of Dev*Ops principles and tools and best practices
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a DoD Secret security clearance
  • Prioritize and adjust tasks to accomplish the project result and provide direction to resolve priorities to achieve goals.
  • Make decisions that impact the organization’s credibility, operations, and services.
  • Comprehend and analyze complex problems and develop solutions.
  • Open to learning about manufacturing principles, semiconducting manufacturing, and testing

Preferred Requirements:

  • Led or played a key role in leading and driving cross-organizational initiatives
  • Experience developing BOEs and supporting IMS planning using tools like MS project, Service Now or other planning tools
  • Experience and demonstrated ability to lead and manage technical teams including job analysis, new product / software development and partnering with customers and other stakeholders to perform requirement definition.
  • Experience in managing automation initiatives in a large-scale enterprise environment.
  • Knowledge of emerging technologies such as generative AI, hyper-automation, and process optimization tools.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and a passion for continuous learning and development.
  • Ability to operate in a fast-paced, dynamic environment while managing multiple priorities.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a Top Secret (TS) with SCI clearance

Salary Range: $138,100.00 - $207,100.00

The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate's experience, education, skills and current market conditions.

Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
