Caterpillar Inc. is seeking a dynamic Software and Controls Team Leader (internally known as Machine System Integration Technology Specialist) with deep expertise in electrical systems to provide technical leadership in designing cutting-edge electrical control systems and integrating electrical and mechanical systems. In this role you will work on the exciting and technically challenging New Technology team with focus on earthmoving products.  This team is responsible for developing and demonstrating automation technologies, which are often used in conjunction with information systems, safety systems, remote control, semi-autonomous, and fully autonomous machine control systems.  Be the leader of a team that helps develop, integrate, and test complex systems focusing on machine safety and productivity – ultimately providing a differentiated product value to our customers globally.

What You Will Do:

  • Work across various business units and roles to align solution strategies and execute them flawlessly, ensuring everyone is on the same page.
  • Harness your electrical systems expertise to drive the designs of cutting-edge electrical controls systems and seamlessly integrate with mechanical systems.
  • Define innovative solutions strategies and create detailed plans to transform concepts into on-machine demonstrations.
  • Clearly and concisely convey information to stakeholders, addressing and resolving any issues that arise to keep projects on track.

What You Have (Basic Qualifications):

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering (electrical degree strongly desired) OR Master’s or PhD in engineering with course work directly related to heavy machinery manufacturing or construction.

3+ years of the following:

  • Solid engineering background with a focus on electronics and electrical systems integration.
  • Experience in product design, bringing advanced control systems from concept through production.
  • Well-versed in navigating matrixed organizational structures, effectively collaborating with a wide range of professionals and enterprise representatives. Demonstrated ability to engage directly with senior leaders and present data-based recommendations to drive consensus and action

Top Candidates Will Have:

1+ years of the following:

  • New Technology Introduction (NTI) or New Product Introduction (NPI) experience
  • Demonstrated ability bringing technology solutions to market for customer driven features (construction/automotive industry)
  • Software development creation experience
  • Electrical System Architecture experience including creating/reading electrical schematics
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to convey complex ideas clearly and concisely across all levels of the organization, facilitating seamless collaboration and alignment.
  • Skilled in conducting comprehensive engineering analyses, utilizing advanced research techniques to gather and analyze industry information and trends. Capable of synthesizing large datasets and extracting actionable insights.
  • AI exposure/experience
