Job Summary
The Medical Laboratory Lead will serve to train new lab team members and help ensure maximum operational support to the core laboratory teams.

Job Specific Responsibilities
Daily assignments will include but not limited to:
• Prepare patient rooms for blood draws and/or lab procedure; gathering medical testing materials
• Assist in performing minor laboratory testing that includes but not limited to pregnancy, MONO, and other rapid laboratory testing
• Assist with on-call coverage
• Super user for laboratory automation line to include Calibration of equipment and troubleshooting automation line and other laboratory equipment
• Resolve billing and order issues
• Resolve conflicts and concerns for lab personnel
• Assist with training of new lab assistant to include oversight and preparation of training schedule for new employees and students
• Assist with inventory management, manage requisitions and POs for required supplies
• Assist Lab Supervisor with scheduling, maintenance, staff huddles, team member check ins and summary reports to the leadership team
• Serve as backup for the laboratory supervisor in their absence
• Adequately and accurately update patient information and laboratory orders in laboratory and hospital information system
• All other duties as assigned

Education and Experience
• High School Diploma or GED
• +2 years of medical laboratory experience
• +1 year of demonstrated leadership experience (leading people or practices)

Required Licensures/Certifications/Registrations
• MLA (ASCP), PBT (ASCP), PBT (NCA) or equivalent

Skills and Abilities
• Understands and can articulate correct procedures to accurately identify patients, label specimens, and verify there is adequate sampling for the testing ordered
• Good knowledge of test menu and ability to manage requisitions/orders
• Must be able to effectively interact with and lead people from all backgrounds
• Demonstrate ability to perform basic functions in the laboratory and hospital information system

Interaction with Other Departments and Other Relationships
This position has much interaction with nursing staff, and occasional interaction with medical staff.

Physical Capabilities
The Lead Lab Assistant can expect to stand for long periods of time and walk frequently. This position also requires frequent stooping, sitting, reaching, bending and kneeling. The incumbent may also be required to carry items over 50 pounds. Near visual and color acuity

Environmental/Working Conditions
This position is subject to inside environmental changes that may include constant change in temperatures and minimal exposure to cleaning chemicals
