Job Description Summary

               

SUMMARY:

The Process Support Tech will be under the direction of the Supervisory Staff.

The Process Support Tech’s primary objective is to apply and support the Systems and Standards in their areas of responsibility. This includes the execution of established standards, development of new standards and modification of existing standards centered on loss elimination and a “fix it forever” mindset. The Process Support Tech’s will work as a unified team and “flow to the work” based on skills and optimization of assigned work area operations.

Process Support Tech positions Standard Work will include participation, operation, support, and maintenance of the following categories:

Safety Programs                                              
Boiler & Refrigeration Systems
Utility Systems
Wastewater Treatment Systems
Sanitation and Chemical Handling & Usage
Daily Management Systems (i.e., Center Lines, CIL, Defect Handling, Incident Elimination, etc.)
AMD/Equipment Ownership Systems
Work Development Plan (WDP) – Continuous Skills Development
Process Support Tech Training Programs
Loss Elimination

Job Description

TECH 1

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE THE FOLLOWING (OTHER DUTIES MAY BE ASSIGNED):

  • Qualified to level 3 in the skill blocks required as outlined in the Process Support Technician step up card matrix.
  • Must gain the required understanding of chemicals and hazards associated within their work area.
  • Owns a system and reports on the system daily in DDS (Daily Direction Setting).
  • Technical knowledge of two (2) areas of Equipment Ownership – operate and maintain at base condition.
  • Able to read and interpret gauges, readings, and basic operations
  • Participates in root cause analysis exercises and activities (IPS &UPS) , become familiar with tools available for root cause identification.
  • Completes all CILs, Defect Handling and Centerlines within area of responsibility at required frequency, including out-of-limit reports.
  • Supports all other DMS systems as assigned.
  • Can do AMD/PM tasks independently, and can start, train, and lead these tasks.
  • Use troubleshooting guide to return equipment to base operating condition and resolve issues, eliminate losses. 
  • Understand and execute Sanitation (SSOPs, CIPs, chemical handling, daily, weekly, etc.).

Tech 2

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE TECH 0 & 1 PREREQUISITE SKILLSET AND THE FOLLOWING (OTHER DUTIES MAY BE ASSIGNED):

  • Qualified to train and verify skills validation SUC’s (Step Up Cards) for Tech 1.
  • Qualified to level 3 in the skill blocks required as outlined in the Process Support Technician step up card matrix.
  • Owns and leads a system to deliver results and system improvements.
  • Intermediate knowledge of 50% of Process Support equipment with ability to operate, maintain and calibrate.
  • Ability to execute root cause analysis activity (with a team or associate; the ability to co-lead root cause analysis activities including IPS and UPS).
  • Lead regular AMD/PM tasks.
  • Be a role model on the following company Systems and Standards.  
  • Corrects wrong behaviors against Standards and Systems to improve team performance and loss elimination.
  • Can troubleshoot issues using troubleshooting guides and standard problem-solving methodologies.

Tech 3

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE TECH 0, TECH 1, & TECH 2 PREREQUISITE SKILLS AND THE FOLLOWING (OTHER DUTIES MAY BE ASSIGNED):

  • Qualified to train and verify skills validations for Tech 1, & 2.
  • Qualified to level 3 in the skill blocks required as outlined in the Process Support Technician step up card matrix.
  • Owns and leads a system for the department or site and delivers results and system improvements.
  • Assists in continuous improvement and cost savings initiatives.
  • Can execute Plant Pillar initiatives effectively with coaching from the site or regional Pillar Lead (ability to interpret and trend data, make improvements as needed).
  • Intermediate to advanced knowledge of 100% of Process Support equipment and ability to operate, maintain, calibrate, and develop/modify standards to eliminate loss.
  • Can troubleshoot issues that arise either through experience/skills or using problem solving methodologies.
  • Baseline understanding of MRO systems.
  • Regularly takes initiative to continually improve team performance in key goal areas – Safety, Quality, Cost, and Service.
  • Lead AMD/PM activities and deploy newly developed AMD/PM tools to deliver improved business results.
  • Ability to analyze PMs and make improvement plan to sustain loss elimination.  
  • Baseline understanding of process controls.  
  • Can Obtain State Licenses for Operations of water systems (Waste and Drinking)

Tech 4

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE TIER 1, TIER 2 & TIER 3 PREREQUISITE SKILLS AND THE FOLLOWING (OTHER DUTIES MAY BE ASSIGNED):

  • Qualified to train and verify skills validations for Tech 1, 2, & 3.
  • Qualified to level 3 in the skill blocks required as outlined in the Process Support Technician step up card.
  • Advanced knowledge of 100% of Process Support equipment and ability to operate, maintain and calibrate.
  • Team Leadership that can assess and improve team & results performance. Impacts the greater site.
  • Deliver quantifiable results through Pillar activities for at least one CBN cycle.
  • Assists in development and adjustment of process controls.
  • Strong proficiency with MRO systems (SAP, technology mastery, etc.).
  • Data based problem solving, lead troubleshooting through leveraging technical mastery and utilize internal and external resources.
  • Lead the development, execution, and improvement of team/department level DMS activities (CIL, Centerline, Defect Handling, etc.).
  • Obtain 2 out of 3 State Water and Wastewater Licenses.

Basic & Preferred Qualifications

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:

High school diploma or general education degree (GED).

Previous work experience in a manufacturing facility preferred.

LANGUAGE SKILLS:

Ability to read and comprehend instructions, short correspondence, and memos.  Ability to write accurate information on simple forms.  Ability to effectively present or listen to information in one‑on‑one and small group situations with all other employees of the organization.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS:

Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in common units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.  Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percentage. 

REASONING ABILITY:

Ability to apply commonsense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.  Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.  Good decision‑making and troubleshooting are necessary.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job.  Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.

This position may or may not be on ground level.  The operators are expected to know how other areas of Process Support operate.  The use of chemicals for cleanup purposes creates an added exposure.  Conditions may sometimes be wet and slippery due to cleaning activities.  Anyone who can’t handle extremes in temperature should not consider this position, as they will be working in and out of a temperature-controlled room of approximately 40-45 degrees.

The ability to stand and walk is a must due to the constant monitoring of the equipment in use.  Ascending and descending stairs is also crucial, especially at break times when it is necessary to watch more than one area.
