Job Description Summary

This is an onsite position. The Machining Engineer implements manufacturing techniques, processes, tooling, and machinery to maximize throughput. Establishes control charting of critical features and processes; monitors results and determines machine and process capabilities and performance reliability. Manages the implementation of new processes, selection of equipment to be purchased, and time estimates. Identifies optimal tooling for machining. Resolves issues with design, manufacturability, or build sequences. Ensures production-part acceptance and manufacturing readiness. Participates in adoption of new technologies and processes to achieve greater efficiency. Consults on and oversees selection and implementation of automation and robotics on the assembly line.

Job Description

  • Develops manufacturing equipment purchase proposals by studying manufacturing plans and commitments; evaluating manufacturing processes and requirements.
  • Assist with quote preparation by providing investment and part cost estimates.
  • Recommends new manufacturing equipment by identifying vendors and operating equipment, evaluating equipment capabilities and service history; evaluating vendor service and support.
  • Completes equipment cost projections by analyzing investment, return, and savings.
  • Leads equipment installations by working with other departments and advising crews
  • Meets production requirements by designing equipment modifications as needed
  • Prepares equipment operators by conducting training; providing reference and support resources.
  • Maintains process integrity by developing and updating policies, procedures, methods, and guidelines.
  • Maintains equipment records by filing documents; updating equipment database.
  • Protects organization value by keeping information confidential; cautioning others regarding potential breaches.
  • Analyzes investment, business case, and savings associated with cost saving and capacity initiatives.
  • Proficient in problem solving skills, including but not limited to 8D’s, PRR’s and 5 Why’s.
  • Prepares workforce by conducting training; providing reference and support resources
  • FMEA experience
  • Ability to maintain Control Plans
  • CAD/CAM (AutoCad and NX) experience
  • 3d Modeling/printing
  • Tool up new machine and set up processes
  • Able to work with auto gages.
  • Collaborate  with supplier and stakeholders to carry out Keizen projects.
  • Work with suppliers on most up to date tooling, work holding, gaging and machines for assigned processes.
  • Line track and report automation performance on produce lines
  • Identify and eliminate waste from process flow.
  • Track and report tooling and scrap cost for assigned line(s). Propose cost reducing in the form of tooling and scrap initiatives to keep cost within budget.
  • Insure process meet AAM safety standards and implement counter measures as needed.
  • Work with operations to meet and exceed OEE expectations
  • Set up process routing for new parts.
  • Work with plant/corporate IE to meet and improve capacity and material handling requirements
  • Work with advanced engineering and sales to support protype projects.
  • Be sure the processes are reviewed, maintained and ready for IATF 16949 audits
  • Proficient in SPC and data analysis.
  • Setting up spare parts for new and existing product lines.
  • Specify and maintain coolant and lubricants to maintain optimal performance.
  • All other duties as assigned.

Required Skills and Education

-Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field, or combination of relevant education and experience.

-Two to five years work experience in a high volume machining environment.

-General understanding of manufacturing processes and thorough knowledge of tooling/ CNC programming.

-Proficient in AutoCAD and NX software

-Proficient in Microsoft Office applications

-Strong interpersonal and written communication skills

-Highly organized planner

-Ability to oversee and organize multiple projects effectively with minimal supervision.

-High level of interpersonal skills to work effectively with others.

Preferred:

-CNC programming

-Six sigma certification

-5S experience.

-Robotic and PLC programming

-MasterCAM experience
