PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: 

Demonstrates the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of patients served.  This includes knowledge of the physical and psychological needs of patients served and the ability to respond appropriately to those needs.



What you will do:

  • The Advanced Practice Nurse (APN) works within a collaborative practice agreement to provide advanced nursing care for patients in the acute care setting.  In collaboration with the physician and other health care team members.
  • Plans and coordinates care to achieve optimal patient outcomes. 
  • As a clinical expert, the APN implements individualized treatment plans, evaluates outcomes, modifies treatment plans as needed, coordinates care for complex patients, provides patient education, and facilitates discharge planning.
  • Must collect, analyze, and interpret data in order to solve problems requiring a professional level of knowledge in a specific discipline and/or design relatively complex clinical or administrative systems and programs.
  • High level of communication skills is required in order to effectively communicate with all health care team members.
  • Work generally consists of activities, projects, or assignments where there is considerable decision-making authority regarding procedures, plans and schedules.
  • Work requires the ability to walk or stand for an hour or more at a time, lift or carry object weighing more than 20 pounds and lifting or positioning patients, the ability to proofread and check documents for errors, use a keyboard to enter, retrieve or transform words or data, and closely examine specimens, images, or reports.
  • Work conditions including performing unpleasant laboratory or patient care duties, working with equipment or performing procedures where carelessness would probably result in minor cuts, bruises or muscle strains
  • On call rotation maybe expected.

What you will need:

  • Requires a Master’s degree in nursing (MSN of MS).  Previous experience as an Advanced Practice Nurse preferred.  Certification in area of specialty required.
  • State of Illinois Registered Nurse license, current State of Illinois Advance Practice Nurse license or pending
  • Current CPR Certification issued by either the American Heart Association or Red Cross required
  • Current or previous experience caring and managing patients in a Behavior Health setting required
