We're looking for a multifaceted Tax Reporting Specialist to join our Calgary team. The key accountability of this role is the tax compliance and tax accounting function for certain designated entities within the corporate portfolio of the Enbridge structure. The tax reporting function includes but is not limited to budget & forecasting for taxes, financial reporting for taxes, Canadian income tax compliance, and tax authority audits.

What You Will Do:

  • Supports Tax Authority audit function for the Corporate portfolio of entities within the Enbridge structure. This includes compiling information and responding to tax authority queries as well as liaising with tax authorities. Also includes responding to government notices and or queries during the out of cycle audit period.

  • Responsible for the tax compliance function as it pertains to certain designated entities within the Enbridge corporate structure. This includes coordinating with the Manager, Tax Compliance to provide review level support with respect to income tax returns, partnership returns, foreign affiliate reporting and other related returns and or information returns required by the tax authorities.

  • Responsible for the timely and accurate preparation of the tax accounting for certain other entities (as designated) within the Corporate portfolio. Provides support to the Manager, Tax Reporting Consolidation with respect to quarterly and annual consolidation of the current and deferred tax position and related disclosures in the consolidated financial documents. This involves collaborating closely with the Edmonton, Toronto and Houston Tax Services Departments.

  • Carries out significant tax accounting research and supports the Manager, Tax Reporting Consolidation in assessing the tax consequences, as well as alternatives, of transactions being carried out by the company. In addition to research this requires the preparation of accounting research memorandums as well as presentation to key members of the department.

  • Carries out income tax research and supports the Manager, Tax Compliance and or Manager, Tax Reporting Consolidation with evaluating transactions and their tax consequences under both federal and provincial income tax law. This includes evaluating various options and preparation of income tax law research memorandums.

  • Provides ad hoc income tax and tax accounting advice to all corporate functions/departments including other members of the Tax Services Department, Controller’s group, Legal Department, Treasury, Business Development and Shipper’s Services

  • Supports the Manager, Tax Reporting Consolidation with respect to tax function effectiveness and tax-related technology solutions

  • Ensures adherence to SOx controls and supports the Manager, Tax Reporting Consolidation in annual analysis of the control design and evaluating the effectiveness as the business evolves.

  • Assists with the preparation and delivery of internal training programs and development of tax advisors within the Calgary business unit.

  • Develops an understanding of key business issues and initiatives relevant to the Calgary business unit particularly as they relate to the Tax Services Department
     

Who You Are:

  • University Degree in Business Administration or other related discipline

  • A professional Accounting designation

  • CPA In-Depth Tax Courses

  • At least 7+ years income tax experience

  • Knowledge of accounting and accounting systems

  • Ability to work independently and prioritize a fast paced workload.

  • Strong research skills

  • Strong Excel, Word, oral and written communication skills.
     

Working Conditions:

  • This role operates within a fast-paced environment and requires the ability to organize, prioritize and manage multiple projects and work assignments on an ongoing and continuous basis.

  • This role requires significant communication among various internal departments, business divisions and external parties

  • Office environment. Occasional travel.
