Job Description

We offer a merit-based work-from-home program based on job responsibilities. After initial training in-person, you could have the flexibility of work-from-home time as defined by the leadership team.

Auto-Owners Insurance, a top-rated insurance carrier, is seeking a motivated individual to join our Underwriting department as a Policy Forms & Research Specialist. The position requires the person to:

  • Review and analyze new laws, regulations, bulletins and court cases as assigned. Provide an analysis of the impact of changes on our products working closely with the impacted areas.
  • Draft revised or new endorsements or policies as directed in accordance with Company standards and applicable state and federal laws.
  • Prepare précis, agency bulletins, underwriting bulletins and form revisions. Assist with the filing preparation of new and revised documents with the appropriate regulatory authorities.
  • Communicate changes to impacted departments and monitor to ensure that changes are understood and properly implemented.
  • Assist with recommendations for technical product changes and designs for automated systems.
  • Assist other associates with questions related to proper procedures.
  • Provide regular updates regarding new laws, regulations and projects while consistently and efficiently managing projects to completion in a timely manner.
  • Assume limited leadership responsibilities within the department for assigned projects.
  • Consistently provide exceptional service with a positive attitude.

Desired Skills & Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree or several years related experience or training .
  • Several years of multi-line underwriting experience and a basic understanding of insurance
  • coverages and corporate philosophy is preferred.
  • Ability to review, analyze, understand and explain statutes, regulations, bulletins, legislative correspondence, insurance policies and Company procedures.
  • Ability to draft new and revised endorsements and policies in response to statutory, regulatory and Company initiated changes.
  • Ability to communicate effectively and professionally both verbally and in writing, with associates at all levels.
  • Ability to evaluate problems, consider alternatives, solve problems, make decisions, organize effectively, coordinate changes and meet deadlines.
  • Ability to operate a personal computer and have proficiency in Company documentation software, spreadsheets, database applications, document management software and Internet research.
  • The ability to train others upon the request.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and a professional business image.
