As a Staff Perception Research Engineer on the Perception and Safety R&D Team, you will join a small cross-functional group developing robotic perception technologies that will enable our robots to operate and other sensors on dedicated computing platforms. You will have the opportunity to help use robotic perception technologies to deploy robots safely around people. In this role you will develop perception technologies, write software that runs on our robots, and build systems that will give our robots a new understanding of their environment. This technology will help create a safety-critical perception stack that will unlock the ability for human-robot collaboration.
Working on a small team, you'll have the opportunity to take end-to-end ownership of new systems which will become part of our future products. If you are creative, thrive in a small team environment, and passionate about a world where humans and robots truly work together - come join us!
How you will make an impact:
Help build the systems that allow our robots to operate safely around people
Build, validate, and deploy perception technologies to detect hazards, humans, and other environmental features.
Integrate perception technologies into a framework that combines computer vision, ML, functional safety, and embedded systems
Integrate and evaluate new systems with our robots to test and deliver safe robotics
Test and validate perception technologies against real-world use cases
Lead cross-functional technical efforts involving interdisciplinary efforts to develop robotic systems.
Help build the infrastructure and operations for a unique small R&D team inside of Boston Dynamics working closely together to unlock new capabilities for our robots.
We are looking for:
7+ years of experience working in the area of robotic perception technology development
Strong programing skills in C++
Knowledge of state of the art in related areas including human detection, autonomous vehicle and driver assist systems, and robot safety.
Experience developing specifications for perception systems from high-level product requirements
Experience developing time-sensitive perceptions systems for mobile robotic platforms
Experience developing performant software for dealing with data from sensors, such as cameras, lidars, radars, or IMUs.
Strong communication skills, including ability to author technical documentation and deliver presentations on technical topics
History of leading cross-functional technical efforts through planning, technical requirement development, and interdisciplinary collaboration
History of working in small, fast moving, interdisciplinary teams.
We are interested in every qualified candidate who is eligible to work in the United States. However, we are not able to sponsor visas for this position.
