Fire Suppression Technician

The Role:
To service and/or maintain Fire Suppression System of Sandvik Mining equipment to ensure machine availability, Customer satisfaction, SHEQ effectiveness. This service is rendered to Sandvik Mining clients.
Key Performance Areas:
- Live the Sandvik EHS Policies, Vision, It’s Culture and ‘Commitment & Responsibility’
- Comply with SMC EHS KPI’s, standards and procedures.
- Comply with Sandvik SHEQ management system and the Objectives and Targets set.
- Be up to date with fire safety regulations and ensuring compliance.
- Installations, performing inspections, repairs, and sales: Completing service orders for fire suppression equipment on Sandvik supplied equipment.
- Scope of Works: Be able to generate a scope of works and BOQ for installations on various types of equipment.
- To liaise with Fire Suppression Champion, (Sandvik Section 8 Appointee, as per OHS act – South Africa) – to ensure all client equipment are adequately covered with requisite inspections and preventive maintenance tactics.
- The incumbent shall be expected to carry out maintenance duties in line with section 151 of Botswana’s MINES, QUARRIES, WORKS AND MACHINERY REGULATIONS.
- Testing equipment: Ensuring equipment is functioning properly before leaving a customer's location or the shop.
- Delivering equipment: Delivering equipment or product orders to customers as needed.
- Completing reports: Completing inspection reports and providing them to the team lead.
- Identifying deficiencies: Identifying and documenting deficiencies on a "Proposal for Repairs" report and submitting it to the team lead
- Interpreting laws and regulations: Interpreting, applying, and explaining applicable laws, codes, and regulations.
- Recognizing deviations: Recognizing and reporting deviations through inspection programs (EHS, Roam5, or CVR). Documenting and reporting any fire safety violations or potential hazards found on the earth moving equipment.
- Acting in a lead capacity: Having the ability to act in a lead capacity.
- Issue and control of hazardous substances and report Hazardous conditions and acts.
- Participate in Incident / accident investigations.
- Participate in SHE forum meetings.
- Participate in and ensure effective housekeeping and maintenance practices.
- You will have a strong customer service focus and a drive to achieve goals.
Competency: Skills and Experience
- The role will require you to have a Higher National Diploma or NCC qualification in Mechanical / Millwright / Electrical / Electronics / Mechatronic trades.
- Relevant mechanized mining equipment experience (5 years)- Underground/surface mining environment and post trade experience in maintaining heavy vehicle machines.
- Exposure to, products and knowledge of, Sandvik underground mining equipment will be considered a distinct advantage.
- Computer literacy, knowledge and experience will also be an added advantage.
