Divergent is a technology company that has architected, invented, built, and commercialized an end-to-end factory system called the Divergent Adaptive Production System (DAPS™) that comprehensively uses machine learning to optimally engineer, additively manufacture, and flexibly assemble complex integrated vehicle structures and subsystems. Products created using DAPS are superior in performance, lower in cost, rapidly customizable to meet mission and customer-specific requirements, faster to market, and scalable on demand to high volume production. Divergent is a qualified Tier 1 supplier to global automotive OEMs, and Divergent is now expanding to support mission critical needs in the Aerospace and Defense sector.

Purpose
Divergent is seeking an experienced and motivated engineer to advance our production system through the evolution and maturation of tools to support 3D printing, build file preparation, and optimization. We’re committed to transforming the Divergent 3D production system away from traditional manufacturing methods and to 3D printing enabled systems using new materials and technologies. To do this, we need a forward looking and innovative engineer who will help to shape the future of manufacturing 3D printed automotive and aerospace structures/components.

The Role
•Provide design for Additive Manufacturing input to engineering teams to collaborate in making optimized parts for our complex, multi-material vehicle structures.
•Drive projects from inception to completion by implementing Design for Additive Manufacturing techniques to customer applications.
•Being self-sufficient to make critical engineering decisions on assigned projects.
•Interface with engineering, software, and manufacturing groups to understand process constraints and provide design inputs for improved printability and tools development.
•Advance our techniques for support structure optimization, with the opportunity to add to our patent portfolio in this area.
•Improve our distortion and error reduction activities, helping to ensure part tolerance accuracy.
•Continually pursue improvements for support material reduction, part packing density, powder egress, and build success rate.
•Evaluate and recommend software tools that can help to achieve production goals.
•Optimize 3-dimensional build layout and part nesting in support of achieving printer productivity rates.
•Follow defined procedures and processes and help to create them where needed.
•Work with supplied CAD files to prepare build files for 3D printing.
•Serve as the AM expert in the room when meeting with customers over their intended application. Provide accurate and insightful input to customers regarding what Divergent can offer through DAPS.
•Able to create standard engineering drawing documentation according to ANSI/ASME Y14.1 while utilizing GD&T principles
•Able to provide continuous improvement feedback on internal process workflow.
