Manager of Government Relations

Position will be based in either Arden Hills, MN or Washington, D.C.

The Manager of Government Relations position reports to the Director of State Government and Industry Relations and will be responsible for implementing our grassroots engagement strategies; implementation of the By Farmers, For Farmers PAC strategy, fundraising and reporting; and serve as a project manager of high priority projects and initiatives.

GRASSROOTS ENGAGEMENT:

  • Support grassroots engagement opportunities to drive state and federal legislative priorities and to allow Land O’Lakes members, executives, and staff to engage with policy leaders.

  • Support advancement, and execution of state and federal grassroots events including in-district events, Washington DC fly-ins, state Day at the Capitol events, Land O’Lakes, Inc. facility visits, and member-owner farm tours.

  • Support the Policy and Resolutions Committee to successfully adopt grassroots policy statements.

  • Comply with necessary ethics rules and reporting requirements.

POLITICAL ACTION COMMITTEE

  • In collaboration with the Director of Federal Affairs, develop and execute on a two-year election cycle budget and fundraising strategy for Land O’Lakes, Inc. By Farmers, For Farmers PAC (BFFFPAC), which recently was re-opened - including hosting and coordinating fundraisers for Members of Congress, facilitating in-state events with Land O’Lakes, Inc. member-owners, and overseeing corporate political compliance.

  • Lead (BFFFPAC) member and employee engagement, education, and fundraising by hosting, coordinating, and facilitating fundraising opportunities such as donor appreciation events (virtual and in-person) and presentations to other business units & executives as well as member-owners and member co-ops' Board of Directors across the country.

  • Foster and build relationships with Congressional Members Finance teams and other relevant political persons.

  • Maintain the PAC/Grassroots database and support systems (Quorum) to better analyze potential LOLPAC contributors, properly track PAC disbursements and receipts, streamline and automate PAC procedures, and capture data analytics of member & employee engagement through action alerts.

TEAM PROJECTS AND COMMUNICATIONS

  • Support the Government Relations team in preparing for internal committee meetings, annual meeting, board meetings, and other key presentations while ensuring key internal and external deadlines are met.

  • Support the Government Relations team use of Quorum, file management, and other IT products to maximize efficiency and strategy.

  • Prepare strategic communication efforts including weekly legislative updates to internal and external audiences.

  • Maintain development and maintenance of Government Relations Footprints/Mapping to be used for member-owner and Executive/CEO engagement.

Experience/Education

  • 5 or more years of legislative, grassroots association, PAC, or campaign experience

  • Experience in grassroots engagement, particularly directly with farmers

  • Degree in agriculture, public affairs, political science, journalism, communications, or related fields, or equivalent work experience

  • Advanced professional experience coordinating & executing event planning activities

  • Ag background preferred

Salary is negotiable based on experience: $77,280 - $115,920
