The Role: Global Employment Tax Specialist

The Team: In this role, you’ll be an integral part of S&P’s Global Payroll team, a group of action-oriented professionals who drive the creation of world-class payroll. This position reports to the Global Lead of Payroll Governance & Compliance and will work closely with the regional Payroll teams as the trusted advisor.

Responsibilities:

  • Ensuring compliance with international tax regulations: You will be responsible for staying updated on international tax laws and regulations related to employment. Establish and maintain an employment tax framework that provides accurate and up-to-date employment tax information to the business. This includes understanding the tax requirements in different countries where the company operates and ensuring compliance with those requirements. 
  • Coordinating with local payroll teams: You will work closely with local payroll teams in different countries to ensure accurate calculation and remittance of payroll taxes. This includes providing guidance and support to local teams on tax-related matters and ensuring that tax withholding requirements and reporting obligations are met. Document employment tax questions and outcomes for our payroll and Global Mobility and Immigration (GMI) academy.
  • Preparing and filing international tax returns: You will be responsible for preparing and filing international tax returns related to employment taxes. This includes understanding the tax filing requirements in different countries and ensuring that all required information is included in the tax returns. 
  • Providing guidance on international tax matters: You will provide guidance and support to HR and payroll teams on international tax matters. This includes answering questions, providing advice on international tax withholding requirements and reporting obligations, and assisting with any international tax-related issues that may arise. 
  • Conducting global tax audits: You may be responsible for conducting global tax audits to ensure compliance with employment tax regulations in different countries. This includes reviewing payroll records, tax calculations, and tax filings across different countries to identify any discrepancies or errors. 
  • Collaborating with tax advisors: You may collaborate with external tax advisors or consultants to ensure compliance with international tax regulations. This includes seeking their expertise on complex international tax matters and incorporating their recommendations into the company's tax practices.
  • Point of contact for payroll and global mobility-related payroll and tax audits and other matters: You will ensure timely and accurate responses. This includes liaising with external government agencies on employment tax-related matters, ensuring compliance and resolving any issues that may arise. Collaborate with external tax consultants to ensure accurate and efficient handling of employment tax matters.
     

What we’re looking for:

  • 7+ years of relevant experience in payroll tax
  • Strong analytical, accounting, and research skills
  • Strong knowledge of tax compliance and procedures
  • Fluent English
  • Excellent writing and communication skills
  • Strong organization skills and ability to prioritize tasks
  • Experience with regulated companies is a plus
  • Strong judgment, problem-solving, negotiation, influence, and conflict resolution skills
  • High integrity, sound judgment, and the utmost discretion
