Job Description:

This is a Consumer Lived/Living Experience Position – you must state in your cover letter having a Lived/Living Experience of mental health challenges and of accessing mental health services.

About the Role 

Under the direction of the Director Lived Experience Workforce and Strategy and in collaboration with the Consumer Reference Committee, other Consumer Consultant role and the Service as a whole, the Consultant assists in the improvement of the service’s responsiveness to consumer needs and to communicate the broad views of consumers to the mental health service and other relevant services.  The Consumer Consultant utilises co-production principles & the Consumer Perspective to advocate for systemic changes that enable & ensure a consumer; lens, perspective, and view, is included in service planning, delivery and implementation.

 Classifications for this position will range from MP32-MP35 Lived Experience Worker Level 2 Year 1-4 (salary range $68,874 - $73,065 per annum pro rata)

Your Contribution 

  • You will have direct personal lived/living experience of mental health challenges and of accessing mental health services.
  • Sound working knowledge of and a commitment to recovery-oriented practice in mental health rehabilitation, co-production principles and consumer perspective
  • Commitment to consumer lived experience values & frameworks (e.g., social justice/human rights perspectives, consumer perspective, self-determination, relational, trauma informed, hope, equity, mutuality, authenticity)
  • Working knowledge of systemic advocacy and how it differs to individual advocacy
  • An understanding and working knowledge of the Mental Health and Wellbeing Act 2022 and other relevant legislation.
  • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively and effectively with multiple key stakeholders both internal and external to St. Vincent’s Hospital (including consumers, nominated persons, carers, family members and community agencies).
  • Ability to provide services appropriate to the needs of people from diverse backgrounds including those from a CALD background.
  • Highly developed interpersonal and communication skills, including problem-solving, conflict-resolving, and sound oral and writing skills.
  • Ability to establish and maintain respectful relationships whilst advocating for system change
  • Demonstrated ability in active participation in projects and/or training, skills or experience in project management
