Your role 

Alchemy is looking for an experienced, versatile, and detail-oriented candidate to become an integral part of our accounting team. We’re looking for a highly motivated individual with tremendous drive, intelligence, and capability. We are a small but agile team looking for the perfect fit to add to our growing organization. As our company environment is fast-paced and growing quickly, this person will have a huge impact on developing new processes that will have a direct effect to how our business operates. As we continue to grow and expand, we are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Senior GL Accountant to join our accounting team.

Reporting to the Director of Accounting, this role will be responsible for a blend of revenue, cash, tax, reporting, and equity related transactions. This role will be responsible for managing month-end close responsibilities, including the preparation of month-end flux analyses including monthly and quarterly variance analyses. This individual will be responsible for preparing and owning a large portion of the company’s key accounting functions.

You will also be responsible for maintaining and reconciling these general ledger accounts in accordance with GAAP, as well as prepare accurate and timely financial statements, ensuring compliance with all regulatory requirements. This role will also be responsible for tax reporting and compliance, including annual tax return preparation, being the liaison with the taxing authorities and ensuring timely payments and compliance/management of tax forms and requirements. This role will also play a huge role in the preparation and coordination of our annual fiscal audit. Lastly, this individual will support ad hoc requests and accounting support as needed.

Your responsibilities

  • Facilitate month-end close transactions in Workday, including various journal entries and account reconciliations
  • Manage collections, cash application, bank reconciliations, and oversee the issuance of dunning letters
  • Provide management with AR/collections status update weekly and follow-up with customers as needed
  • Create billing schedules and review customer contracts in Workday
  • Perform reconciliations related to deferred revenue and calculate percentage of completion revenue recognition on fixed fee/milestone-based contracts
  • Review change orders for accuracy and advisable revenue recognition language
  • Record revenue write-offs and prepare revenue reserve entries
  • Partner cross-functionally with Finance, Sales, Delivery, and Project Managers on various assignments
  • Prepare monthly and quarterly flux analyses
  • Analyze revenue and expense trends and investigate variances, partnering with FP&A
  • Review revenue and expenses by cost center and line of business for completeness and accuracy
  • Stock-based compensation and employee support, including management of equity transactions in our third-party software platform
  • 3921 maintenance and annual fillings
  • Prepare periodic sales tax, use tax and franchise tax filings
  • Maintain corporate tax reporting matrix and be the company representative to tax authorities
  • Ensure compliance across applicable states and prepare for tax planning
  • Assist with preparation of annual corporate income tax return
  • Continuously evaluate existing processes and identify opportunities for streamlining and automation to enhance efficiency and accuracy
  • Implement improvements to optimize workflow and enhance the overall effectiveness of financial operations
  • Help prepare and manage annual fiscal audit
  • Draft desktop procedures for various business processes within Workday
  • Ad hoc reporting and accounting support as needed

About you (Required skills)

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting
  • 4+ years of related experience at minimum
  • Knowledge of revenue recognition under ASC 606
  • Strong technical accounting skills with a business approach
  • Proven ability to optimize and streamline systems and processes
  • Proficient in Excel (pivot tables, v-lookups at a minimum)
  • Ability to work independently and productively
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • The ability to work well cross-functionally with other teams
  • Exceptional organizational, critical thinking, and analytical skills
  • Ability to work in a dynamic, fast-paced environment

About you (Bonus skills)

  • Public Accounting (Big 4) experience preferred
  • CPA a plus but not required
  • Knowledge of Workday Financials a plus
  • Experience with equity transactions and/or tax reporting
  • Customer service oriented, collaborative thinker, and extremely organized
  • Data driven mindset with an attention to detail and focus on accuracy
  • Able to fulfill ad hoc requests on short notice with a good attitude

Pay Transparency Statement  

As a part of the total compensation package, this role may be eligible for the Alchemy variable bonus plan based on role-specific commission/bonus. Talent Acquisition can share more detail during the hiring process. The salary range for this role takes into account the wide range of factors that are considered in making compensation decisions including but not limited to skill sets; experience and training; licensure and certifications; and other business and organizational needs. At Alchemy, it is not typical for an individual to be hired at or near the top of the range for their role and compensation decisions are dependent on the facts and circumstances of each case. A reasonable estimate of the current range is $90,000.00 USD to $115,000.00 USD.
