Position Overview:

As part of the Navico Group Stuart team, you will Set up and operate a variety of machine tools consistent of manual or computer numerically controlled (CNC) equipment, such as lathes and milling machines, to cut and produce precision parts for consumers, machines, instruments, and tools. May also fabricate and modify parts to make or repair machine tools or maintain industrial machines with precise measurements., applying knowledge of mechanics, shop mathematics, metal properties, layout, and machining procedures

Essential Functions:

  • Review samples, drawings, or instructions to understand specifications of output
  • Perform first article and in-process inspections
  • Plan the sequence of necessary actions for the completion of a job
  • Take measurements and mark material for processing
  • Select appropriate machines (e.g. Manual Lathes, CNC equipment, Cutting Tools and equipment etc.) and position or load material for a job
  • Determine and program size of batches, speed, and feeds of machines
  • Monitor machine while processing to adjust the speeds and feeds and maintain tool life and identify inconsistencies
  • Make program adjustments as needed
  • Check output to ensure consistency with specifications and discard defects
  • Keep record of approved and defective units or final product
  • Maintains inventory of completed product
  • Perform routine machine maintenance and repair minor damages
  • Maintains a safe and clean workstation
  • Minimal supervision required
  • Perform all other duties as assigned

Required Qualifications:

  • Proven experience as machinist
  • Experience in the operation of and programming manual, semi-automated or automated tools and machines (Manual Lathes, CNC equipment, Cutting Tools, and equipment etc.)
  • Ability to use precision tools (e.g. calipers, micrometers, measuring tapes etc.) to take accurate measurements
  • Familiarity with Computer Numerical Control (CNC) software and machinery used for computer-aided manufacturing
  • Knowledge of properties of metal and other material
  • Ability to read blueprints, schematics, and manuals
  • Good math with analytical abilities
  • Strong attention to detail, accuracy, and safety
  • Ability to perform repetitive tasks
  • Ability to work in a Non-A/C environment
  • Understanding of G&M codes
  • Demonstrated oral and written communication skills
  • Analytical and problem-solving skills to develop effective manufacturing plans based on specifications
  • Problem-solving skills to troubleshoot issues that arise during the manufacturing process

Preferred Qualifications:

  • High School or greater
  • At least two years related experience required as a machinist
  • Vocational school or apprenticeship is preferred

Working Conditions:

  • While performing duties of the job, incumbent is required to stand for full shift; walk; sit; use hand to finger handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls; reach with hands and arms; talk and hear.
  • Employee must occasionally lift and/or move up 50 pounds
  • Specific vision abilities required by the job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus
  • Non-A/C work area; the noise level can periodically be higher than normal, hearing protection may be required
  • Understanding of health and safety regulations to reduce the risk of workplace accidents
