The Senior Manager, Supplier Engineering is a key member for the Supplier Engineer group, which is part of Insulet’s Global Procurement and Supplier Development organization. S/he works closely with peers in Quality, and Sourcing and leads his/her team to meet/exceed the plan for landed cost and quality improvements, qualification of mechanical component tooling manufacturing processes at third party sites, and transfer of existing capital to alternate sites. The Senior Manager, Supplier Engineering has several key accountabilities.

First, s/he leads his/her team to execute on the sourcing strategy for Insulet’s existing and new components. This includes carrying out assessments of the technical capability of potential suppliers to deliver Insulet’s requirements and recommending optimal supplier manufacturing processes for such components.

Next, s/he is responsible for developing and deploying a continuous improvement program to improve component quality and cost. As part of this program s/he will lead efforts to optimize current supplier manufacturing processes, and work with the extended team(s) to review and revise Insulet component specifications and inspection methods, and carry out Design for Manufacturability (DFM) and value engineering projects to improve component cost and quality.

Additionally, the Senior Manager, Supplier Engineering is responsible for leading his/her team to manage and execute the successful, on time qualification and validation of Insulet’s deployed capital tooling assets, to assure that Insulet has the component manufacturing capacity necessary to support its growth objectives. It also includes supporting the management and tracking of the capital tooling asset portfolio of new and backup tools, along with spares, tool repairs, and tool maintenance to ensure no supply disruption and the capability at the suppliers to manage demand spikes.

Finally, as leader of the Supplier Engineering team, the Senior Manager, Supplier Engineering is responsible for developing and leading an engaged, talented team. This includes regularly assessing the strengths and weaknesses of the team against Insulet’s current and future supplier manufacturing requirements and developing, recommending, and implementing action plans, hiring plans, and training plans to ensure that Insulet has the skills necessary to manage a global component supply chain.

The Ideal candidate has significant experience with precision component manufacturing for high-volume assembled devices, including precision plastics, metal stampings, screw manufacturing, and packaging design. The ideal candidate additionally has experience working with suppliers who provide these custom components for use in medical devices, automotive, or another highly-regulated industry.

Responsibilities:
• Leads the team for the validation and qualification of purchased components and assemblies through the USAM assembly process.

  • Drive component improvements to minimize variation to support operational objects for OEE and scrap goals.
  • Apply engineering principals to perform root cause analysis to resolve and implement corrections to component related issues.• The individual must be able to build the capability of others to assure successful project execution. Engages and energizes others to reach their fullest potential and performance. This can include, but is not limited to improving business process systems, developing training aides and SOPs, and providing effective coaching and feedback
    • Advise team of supplier engineers and quality engineers as they investigate and improve supplier processes, deploy tools and equipment at supplier facilities, and introduction of new components to suppliers
    • Drives continuous improvements activities to improve the cost, quality and delivery purchased components


• Allocates resources, assigns priorities to tasks, and acts as an advisor to senior management in delivery of value-added services for Engineering.
• Develops robust and sustainable systems to track improvements across the components.
• Oversees change control associated with modifications to components.
• Performs other duties as assigned.

Education and Experience:

Minimum Requirements:
• B.S. in Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, or related discipline
• Minimum of 10 years’ work experience in a regulated industry
• Minimum of 3 years leading and managing an engineering staff

Preferred Skills and Competencies:
• Comfortable in a fast-paced environment, and successfully executing against multiple objectives simultaneously
• Strong interest in leading and developing teams
• Naturally brings groups together to develop action plans and make and document decisions
• Strong written and verbal communication skills
• Demonstrated technical expertise and technical leadership in a relevant discipline (e.g. mechanical design, manufacturing process development, statistical analysis)
• Working knowledge of MS Office, including Office Project software.
• Ability to travel domestically/Internationally – 25% max
• Six Sigma Process Improvement Experience/Certification preferred

Additional Information:

The US base salary range for this full-time position is $110,600.00 - $166,250.00. Our salary ranges are determined by role, level, and location. The range displayed on each job posting reflects the minimum and maximum target for new hire salaries for the position in the primary work location in the US. Within the range, individual pay is determined by work location and additional factors, including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training.
