Job Description

Neogen is looking to hire a Chemist who will be responsible for formulating agents and preparing components used in the food safety industry according to Standard Operating Procedures ensuring accuracy and quality throughout the processes.

First Shift: Monday - Thursday 6:00 AM - 4:30 PM

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Formulate chemical reagents from stock with direction from the appropriate Standard Manufacturing Procedure (SMP) or Standard Operating Procedure (SOP).
  • Conduct chemical reactions for development of reagents with direction from the appropriate Standard Manufacturing Procedure (SMP) or Standard Operating Procedure (SOP).
  • Perform in process quality testing and product release testing with direction from the appropriate Standard Manufacturing Procedure (SMP) or Standard Operating Procedure (SOP).
  • Follow International Organization for Standardization (ISO) guidelines in the manufacture of all reagents.
  • Use good manufacturing procedures (GMP) and good documentation practices (GDP) in the manufacture of all reagents.
  • Participate in validation and verification procedures for raw material qualification.
  • Participate in troubleshooting efforts pertaining to product failures.
  • Participate in product/process improvement of current products.
  • Assist Supervisor and Manager in maintenance of raw material inventory and/or lab supplies.
  • Maintains the general cleanliness and organization of work areas using lean processes and 5S.
  • Operation, maintenance, and calibration of basic equipment necessary to perform job functions.
  • Adheres to any and all safety rules and regulations, including personal protective equipment, proper use of equipment, proper disposal of any and all materials etc.
  • Produce and compile data sets generated for raw material qualification, product release testing and/or troubleshooting efforts.
  • Plans and executes necessary preparatory processes for scheduled manufacturing duties in advance.
  • Assist in physical inventories as required.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by your supervisor and/or manager.

Education and/or Experience:

  • College education – degree in Protein Chemistry, Chemistry, Biochemistry, Biotechnology, Biological Science, Immunology, Microbiology, Food Science or related science field. 

  • 1-2 years of laboratory, manufacturing, and/or related work experience.
