Position Overview

We are reimagining performance management at Yahoo. The Performance team is responsible for unlocking the next level of employee innovation and productivity to drive business results. We’ll do this by designing, building, launching, evolving, and managing a comprehensive system for aligning, enabling, and assessing work. The components of this may include goal and expectation setting, feedback and manager check-ins, promotions and progression, rewards and recognition, and talent reviews. The Performance Manager role will report to the Director of Performance.

The core responsibilities of this role will evolve throughout the stages of this build and as the team evolves. As part of the build, we will be concluding a design project.

Key Responsibilities:

Phase 1

  • Leading functional teams or projects with complex resource requirements, risks and challenges

  • Managing the design thinking process; end-to-end program management

  • Co-leading the synthesis of data, research findings, and tests

  • Ensuring key stakeholders within the People team and business units provide input and feel they are co-creating with us

  • Turning insights from a needs assessment into a framework for how we should structure the work

Phase 2

  • Designing key components of the performance system, including technical tools and products that leverage AI to increase efficiency and effectiveness

  • Planning the launch and implementation of this system across the company

  • Coordinating relevant workstreams across People teams

Phase 3

  • Management of key components of the performance system

  • Change management efforts

  • Stakeholder management

  • Ongoing system evaluation and improvement

  • Potentially managing a team

Basic Qualifications:

  • 7+ years of experience in talent, performance, or HR

  • Has managed programs end-to-end and has experience building programs from scratch

  • Has a creative perspective on performance/talent management with an advanced understanding of modern talent best practices with the imagination to think beyond them

  • Can think strategically while also executing efficiently using available tools and resources (e.g. A.I.): this is a high level role without dedicated coordinator or specialist support

  • Operates independently and takes initiative to identify and move on innovative opportunities: requires guidance only in the most complex situations

  • Strong change management/ go-to-market abilities 

  • Strategic leader, team and culture builder with good ambition

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience in talent/HR outside of performance management

  • Familiarity with product lifecycle, design, or vetting

  • Some people management experience

The compensation for this position ranges from $90,750.00 - $188,750.00/yr and will vary depending on factors such as your location, skills and experience.The compensation package may also include incentive compensation opportunities in the form of discretionary annual bonus or commissions.
