Nissan is looking for an avid Computer System Research Engineer for assignment to the Nissan Advanced Technology Center - Silicon Valley (NATC-SV).

 

NATC-SV is a multi-disciplinary organization that recognizes the need to bring together a diverse R&D team to challenge the current state of automotive technology. From developing behavior-aware autonomous driving systems, to personalizing BEV energy management, to designing new experiences for future vehicle concepts, NATC-SV staff are pushing boundaries in the pursuit of improving mobility for everyone. As an Computer System Engineer/Researcher, you will spearhead research and development of ARM based high performance computer (HPC) systems with domain specific accelerator. You’ll be responsible for the full stack on new HPC systems and will make sure our relevant workload for AD will run at highest performance, with safety and security. Through a combination of leadership, mentoring, and individual contribution, you will apply your work to real vehicle prototypes, thereby enabling new frontiers of scalability, robustness, adaptation, and user experience. From exploring cutting-edge research concepts to proving product viability, you have the potential for real impact to the company and to society.

Job Responsibilities

Our R&D organization will look to you to apply your technical expertise and research experience in one or more of the following disciplines: 

  • System Ready” ARM-based HPC
  • Profiling of workloads
  • ARM IP, ARM tools, RTOS
  • Virtualization, security and safety
  • GNU ARM Embedded Toolchain, ARM Debugger, QEMU
  • UXL

 

 

How you will be contributing 

  • Work closely with other experts in AI, computer science, in-vehicle hardware to realize advanced technology concepts. 
  • Prototype your ideas through software development, leveraging off-the-shelf libraries and tools to your advantage, architecting re-usable and re-configurable modules with sensible designs, clear interfaces, well-prescribed assumptions, and well-documented code. 
  • Perform rigorous evaluation, empirical and otherwise, of your designs and implementations 
  • Communicate your work effectively through presentations and reports to stakeholders. 
  • Author patents and reports, with opportunity to publish your research in academic conferences 
  • Expand your knowledge about research advances and tools by reading papers, maintaining connections with academic and industry research networks, attending conferences, participating in professional organizations, and exploiting educational opportunities. 
  • Given concrete application contexts and stakeholder objectives, frame research problems and propose methods for addressing them that demonstrate you working knowledge of the state of the art and its limitations. 
  • Bring your creativity and unique perspective to bear in the creation and execution of game-changing research projects. 
  • Lead project teams to deliver prototypes and research findings to R&D stakeholders, if that is your ambition.

Job Knowledge and Skills:

Requirements for you to succeed in this role 

  • Masters or above in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related field, with an emphasis on the practical challenges of high performance computing and hardware acceleration. 
  • Min 7 years of relevant project experience, with extent and type of experience dictating title and compensation. 
  • Demonstration of your expertise and depth of knowledge in one more of the technical areas listed above. 
  • Solid foundation in software development and system emulation 
  • Passion for doing research and development at the edge of human knowledge.

 

 Ways to stand out from the crowd 

  • PhD degree in related discipline.
  • In-depth knowledge in two or more of the technical areas listed above. 
  • Track record of patents or publications in international conferences, workshops, and journals
  • Experience with PyTorch and Tensorflow.
  • Authorship of relevant open-source software following best software engineering practices.
  • Experience working in industry and integrating solutions within the context of a larger system architecture.

Salary Range:

$100,917.00 - $230,589.00

Salary Range Estimate: Annual Salary: (Minimum to Maximum of  Salary Range noted here). This compensation range represents the minimum and maximum base salary rates at Nissan for jobs assigned to this particular grade level. Please note that it is uncommon for an employee to be placed at either end of the range.  Rather, an employee’s actual base salary generally may fall somewhere in between and reflect the employee’s unique skills, work experience, education, work location, and market norms.  Additionally, pay may be based on comparisons to the base salary rates of other employees with similar backgrounds working in comparable roles.
