Mobile App Compatibility Engineer

Position Overview:

The Mobile App Compatibility Engineer will be an integral member of the R&D team directly supporting the smartphone portfolio for existing and NOI Omnipod product lines.  This role will provide leadership and oversight to the entire Android and iOS smartphone expansion programs as part of the broader design control processes, including but not limited to owning the success of the smartphone compatibility program, driving and developing technical relationships with Android and Apple partners, improving efficiency in Apple App and Google Play Store app deployments, and driving the annual smartphone operating system and API impact assessments and associated testing and / or software development efforts.

Responsibilities: 

  • Lead engineer for Insulet’s smartphone compatibility program for the Omnipod product lines.
  • Technical liaison between Cloud Operations and R&D, in order to maintain oversight and guidance for application deployments in the Apple App and Google Play Stores. Lead process development efforts to utilize full functionality and metric tracking capabilities of the App stores. Drive process. improvements and optimize deployment strategies in the Google Play Store and / or Apple App Store
  • Collaborate with Android and Apple partners to develop and maintain relationships related to smartphone operating systems, including but not limited to release schedules and content evaluations; maintain operating system release schedule with Project Management.
  • Creating and maintaining readouts to management on metrics from both app stores.  Track and alert R&D to app store policy and requirement deadlines. Collaborate with Product Management to ensure the product development roadmap includes the technical planning and execution needed to meet app store deadlines.
  • Drive the technical tasks to support iOS, Google, and Samsung annual operating system (OS) updates and API compliance, including but not limited to independently assess the technical impact of OEM OS release notes, collaborate with software development on associated product impact, prioritization planning with Product Management, and present information and status to leadership and other stakeholders. Collaborate with software test teams to ensure testing comprehensiveness based on smartphone operating system changes.
  • Review, approve, and maintain all technical documentation to maintain smartphone compatibility in the field and drive related process improvements.
  • Monitor, track and document software defects found during smartphone compatibility testing
  • Point-of-contact for product field escalations related to smartphones.
  • Collaborate with Product Marketing and Systems Engineering teams on planning the roadmap for US and International smartphone expansion.

Education and Experience:

Minimum Requirements

  • Bachelor Science in an Engineering discipline (Systems, Biomedical, Computer Science).
  • A minimum of 3 years of experience (inclusive of any post-grad work) working on application design and / or deployment in a multidisciplinary project team environment.
  • A minimum of 3 years of experience in product development for an Android and / or iOS software development, specifically related to understanding and evaluating operating system API requirements as part of app impact analysis.
  • Subject matter expertise in application deployments in either Apple App or Google Play Stores (both preferred). Deep understanding of Store metric tracking features, policies, and requirements for deploying apps.
  • Excellent project team skills; experience and capability working collaboratively under a Quality Management System (QMS), as part of a cross-functional team, such as software development, cloud operations, marketing, clinical, regulatory and quality experts.
  • Ability to lead teams in processes improvements.
  • Ability to communicate at multiple levels of an organization.
  • Ability to organize and judge priorities in a dynamic environment.

Must be able to sit or stand for 8 hours a day.

Additional Information:

The US base salary range for this full-time position is $71,843.00 - $107,764.25. Our salary ranges are determined by role, level, and location. The range displayed on each job posting reflects the minimum and maximum target for new hire salaries for the position in the primary work location in the US. Within the range, individual pay is determined by work location and additional factors, including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training.
