Job Title: Commercial Capability & Business Transformation Director, General Medicines Global Product Strategy (“GPS”)

Location: To be discussed – Asia House (Singapore) – assumed.

General Medicines delivers ~£10bn in sales for GSK and >90% of all of GSK pharmaceuticals volumes across ~200 brands and 10,000 SKUs to ~150 countries. 

The Commercial Capability & Business Transformation Director, General Medicines Global Product Strategy (“GPS”) will spearhead the product area’s ambitious, focused pursuit of new commercial opportunities that broaden the use of our General Medicines and create value for customers, patients, and the business by:

  • Building the capability of the General Medicines GPS team to successfully identify and implement innovative new ideas and approaches that deliver business value.

  • Scaling and optimizing existing examples of customer strategy and innovation best practice.

  • Developing and executing innovative new customer and patient strategies to drive sales.

  • Driving adoption of novel and emerging digital, data, and tech solutions for commercial benefit.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Build and deliver a programme of work that increases the capability of the General Medicines GPS team to successfully identify and implement innovative new commercial ideas and approaches that deliver business value.

  • Provide GPS teams with oversight of existing examples of successful commercial innovations, and influence across the matrix to drive broader adoption of the approaches that work.

  • Partner closely with GPS teams to define key strategic business challenges, formulate data-driven hypotheses, ideate and develop innovative new business products, solutions and/or services that broaden the use of our medicines.

  • Gain buy-in and endorsement from GPS teams, regions, and markets to pilot new ideas and initiatives, securing the resources and funding required to execute successfully.

  • In line with brand, customer, and patient strategic priorities, lead the establishment of new third-party partnerships at both a market and global level that enable broader use of our medicines.

  • Build the General Medicines GPS team’s understanding and capability to leverage advances in digital, data, and technology to transform and drive performance.

  • Establish and ensure appropriate governance of projects, including planning, risk management, approval, resource deployment, implementation, and performance reporting.

  • Project manage new pilot projects and the successful scaling of existing best practices.

  • Champion and adopt an agile approach, rapidly learning from what is and isn’t successful and embedding this knowledge across the business to drive performance.

  • Act as a key contributor in the annual strategic brand planning process, agreeing on the budget for novel customer and patient strategy and innovation projects and ensuring the lessons that are learned from pilot projects are embedded into future brand plans.

Previous Experience Required:

  • Minimum 10 years of experience in ideally multiple of the following fields: in-market business leadership (BU Head), global product strategy, marketing, project management, digital and tech.

  • Previous role in commercial strategy, management consulting, and/or commercial excellence in a pharmaceutical environment.

  • Significant experience in leading strategy implementation and change management in large matrixed organizations.

  • Strong ability to influence at all levels of the organization.

  • Strong people agility, influencing skills, and diplomacy.

  • Capable of working across boundaries and functional areas.

  • High resilience and learning agility.

  • Creative problem solving.

  • Solid judgment, critical thinking, and proven ability to make well-informed, data-driven decisions.

  • Strong business acumen skills (strategy, operations, finance) and ability to execute and implement strategies.

  • Excellent analytical, organization, and planning skills.
