Accounting at Brex

The Accounting team at Brex ensures we have perfect financial reporting, but even more so we serve as the testers of Brex’s financial products, providing analysis and feedback as the first users prior to product releases. We’re not only responsible for maintaining accurate books and records for financial reporting, but we’re deeply passionate about automation and partner closely with the engineering team to implement technological improvements.

What you’ll do  

The Senior Accountant will play a key role in ensuring the integrity of our financial records and in developing scalable and sustainable processes as the business grows. As the Senior Accountant on the Accounts Payable team, you will be exposed to a variety of areas, including but not limited to, our credit card and treasury products, intercompany transactions, expense accruals, legal entity reporting, account reconciliations, fluctuation analysis, and more. As the Senior Accountant, you will work cross functionally across the organization within a detail-oriented environment, where creative problem solving is highly valued. The Senior Accountant is expected to manage multiple priorities concurrently without compromising quality. 

Responsibilities 

  • Ownership of accounting processes related to Accounts Payable and operating expense recording, with a focus on company credit card transactions
  • Administering the Brex corporate card program: maintaining the card policy, employee education, and collaborating with cross functional partners (Finance and People teams) 
  • Accounting for operating expenses, prepaid and fixed assets, and expense accruals
  • Leading reviews and analysis of operating expenses
  • Supporting month-end close with preparation of journal entries, accruals, reconciliations, and variance analytics
  • Supporting year-end tasks, including account reconciliations and audit requests
  • Partnering with Engineering, Product, and Design to support the testing and rollout of new features and releases
  • Identifying and delivering process improvements via cross functional collaboration

Requirements 

  • College graduate with a 4-year degree in Accounting or related field
  • 3+ years of public accounting or private industry experience 
  • Ability to examine and verify financial documents, reports, and transactions; research and analyze accounting transactions; verify the accuracy of data; reconcile financial data and accounts
  • Proficient in Microsoft Excel and Google Sheets
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and address difficult situations in a professional manner 
  • Innovative and able to provide “outside of the box” solutions 
  • Passion for having an owner’s mentality towards responsibilities and for career growth
  • Ability to work independently and manage deadlines effectively
  • Excellent analytical, problem solving, and decision-making skills
  • Strong interpersonal and written communication skills
  • Must be able to work 2 days/week in office on Wednesday and Thursday

Bonus Points

  • Licensed CPA
  • A combination of public accounting and private industry experience
  • Knowledge and experience using NetSuite, Coupa, and spend management softwares

Compensation

The expected salary range for this role is $96,022 - $120,028.  However, the starting base pay will depend on a number of factors including the candidate’s location, skills, experience, market demands, and internal pay parity. Depending on the position offered, equity and other forms of compensation may be provided as part of a total compensation package.
