Job Summary
Join us at NAV CANADA as we pursue our vision to leverage data as a corporate asset. The Enterprise Data and Information Governance (EDIG) Office is actively building an agile, comprehensive data governance program to support us our journey. As the Enterprise Data Governance Specialist, you will be the lead in establishing an effective data governance framework to address the safe and efficient sharing of data and information at NAV CANADA. In addition, you will lead upcoming initiatives that focus on identifying critical data assets, building a data stewardship community, and assurance of data quality, availability, and accessibility. To be successful in the role, you need a blend of technical and business expertise augmented by strong communication skills.
Job Description
In this role you will:
- Contribute to the strategic development and implementation of data and information governance, foster innovation and long-term performance.
- Identify and develop policies, standards and guidelines for data and information governance.
- Advise on approaches for effective data usage, capture, and maintenance at NAV CANADA
- Builds and maintains the framework for the enterprise data catalogue, data quality standards, and stewardship working group
- Collaborate with the Corporate Data, AI, and Analytics Strategy to ensure alignment with data governance activities.
- Lead all aspects of change management and training related to the rollout and ongoing activities of the Data Governance program.
- Develop and deliver data and information governance learning sessions and participate in other opportunities to expand the adoption and awareness of data and information governance, quality and metadata capabilities for staff.
- Assist in the documentation of functional requirements to integrate data and information governance in systems.
- Ensure data issues and requests are triaged appropriately, and changes are documented and processed in a timely fashion.
- Utilize a standardized approach to identify and document issues across assigned data domains.
What you bring:
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Library Sciences, Statistics, Engineering, Finance, Economics, Mathematics or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- 3-5 years of experience in data management with demonstrated ability to analyze, interpret and explain systems and approaches for data to enable business decisions
- Experience in developing functional information architectures, taxonomies, and metadata to facilitate organizing, storing, protecting, and retrieving data and information
- Experience in developing policies, standards, and guidelines related to data and information governance
- Experience with working in both a technical and business context is an asset; able to translate technical concepts into easy-to-understand business language
- Solid understanding of database structures, data models, and/or BI tools
- Experience with data analysis techniques
- Good understanding of project management approaches, tools, and lifecycle
- Understanding of complete lifecycle of data and information
