Position Summary...

The Data Scientist represents the foundation of a data driven culture that has made Wal-Mart a leader in the retail industry. Individual in this role will use a wealth of available product data to generate product attributes to be used by the enterprise. The successful candidate will have an established background in building products, solving complex problems, a strong technical ability, excellent organizational and communication skills, and the motivation to achieve results in a fast-paced environment. Our team is small, creative, diligent, highly entrepreneurial and business focused with a unique opportunity to work on a large Walmart US project within Walmart Canada.

What you'll do...

Responsibilities:

  • Lead the development of a scalable data science platform by solutioning the best applicable model for the required business challenges with an emphasis on speed and accuracy.
  • Brainstorm solutions and improvements and concisely present to leadership suggested changes and their impact.
  • Interact with other data scientists and provide guidance based on the current state of the data science platform.
  • Capability to implement improvements to the overall design and underlying infrastructure.
  • Create production-ready code in standardized template for other team members to leverage to expedite their work.
  • Help to engage and interact with external business stakeholders and other technical teams to pass on data science learnings.
  • Enable others in the organization to utilize your work by sharing your work as well as act as an ambassador for Data Science within Walmart Canada

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s in Computer Science, Data Science, Statistics, or another highly technical or analytical field
  • 2-3 of years of working experience
  • Ability to be a self-starter in a fast-paced environment
  • Experience with Google Cloud Platform and its offerings (BigQuery, VertexAI, GKE).
  • Robust understanding of machine learning algorithms and their mathematical foundations.
  • Ability to assess model confidence measurements and selection of appropriate models depending on business problem
  • Experience with supervised and GenAI models, specifically transformer models.
  • Strong skills in data preprocessing, exploratory data analysis, and feature engineering.
