Job Description

Are you looking for unlimited opportunities to develop and succeed?  With work that makes a difference in a flexible and encouraging environment, while helping customers achieve their dreams and aspirations?

What if I told you that Manulife, a financial company, has a supportive work environment with flexible hours and work from home arrangements?  What if I told you we're working towards modern tools and processes including SAFe (Scaled Agile Framework), Design thinking, Human Centered Design and tools like Jira, MS Visio and Confluence?  What if I told you we are keen to innovate and we’re growing?

It's banking, the way it should be!

At Manulife Bank, we believe banking products are an integral part of every Canadian's financial plan.  As one of Canada's youngest banks, we are growing at an unprecedented rate and need people with the skills, energy and drive to maintain our leadership position as an "Advisor's bank."

What will I be doing?

You will join forces with other hard-working people (like Product Owners, Business experts, Developers) to analyze a Business need, explore and identify the best technology solution, and help to make that solution a reality...all before a deadline hits.  Then you start on the next challenge and do it again!  If you thrive on this type of work - then we need your people-smarts and keen mind as a Business Analyst on our Business Services and Development Team.

In addition, your role will also have a focus on process mapping, customer journey mapping, analyzing business needs, creating business requirements and conducting thorough User Acceptance Testing (UAT) to ensure quality.

Your responsibilities would include:

  • Using your analytical skills and critical thinking to ask questions, understand our Business drivers and needs, and bring order and precision to scope and requirements
  • Participate in small, self-managed agile teams involving members with different expertise and specialization
  • Uncovering, analyzing, and facilitating the definition of solution requirements
  • Using a variety of requirements modelling techniques - such as user stories, process mapping, acceptance criteria, decision tables and business rules – to convey information
  • Delivering documented solution requirements so that everyone has a clear and consistent understanding of the proposed solution
  • Using your strong communication skills to lead meetings and present information to all levels of the company
  • Participate in all Scaled Agile Ceremonies with your assigned Delivery Squad – such as PI planning, Daily Stand Ups, Refinement sessions, System demos and Retrospectives to push continuous improvement and productivity by following the Squad's accomplishments, identifying roadblocks and backlog prioritization
  • Using your problem-solving skills and sound judgement to make business decisions that drive results and solve customer problems.
  • Analyze and document current business processes, facilitate requirements gathering sessions, and work closely with Business and Technology partners to evaluate and recommend alternatives to solutions
  • Participate in components of medium to large size initiatives while meeting scope, time, and quality targets
  • Write and execute UAT test plans and test cases for Bank system releases
  • Partners with Bank Business Areas and Technology partners to discuss testing approaches, write test strategies as well as act as a liaison
  • Provides back up support to other Squad members and the team
  • Identifies efficiencies within the team with a continual focus on process improvement
  • As required, supports the recovery of the Bank escalated production problems
  • As required, participates in production releases for validating / connectivity testing, or helps coordinate the business testing effort; may require some weekend / afterhours support on infrequent basis
  • Flexibility may be required during testing cycles

Qualifications

Am I right for the job?

  • You never lose sight of the customer - their needs and their experience in doing business with us.  You put the customer at the centre of everything you do.
  • The analysis profession isn’t new to you.  You’ve spent three (3) years or more growing your knowledge, skills and experience in this line of work and you have a clear track record of success in supporting medium to large projects.
  • You learn FAST.  You pick up new ideas, concepts, technologies, and tools easily.
  • You have an approachable style that just makes people want to work with you - and that helps build great relationships between other people and groups.
  • You “go with the flow” and can adapt to change.
  • You successfully manage competing priorities like a champion.
  • You maintain your composure and best-self during challenging times or challenging interactions.

  • You’re a capable and innovative problem-solver using sound judgement to make business decisions that drive results and solve customer problems.
  • You are familiar with different approaches for delivering projects – whether that is waterfall, agile or a creative blend of the two.
  • You realize that the need to continue to learn and invest in your own development is a never-ending journey.  And if you have professional accreditation in analysis, that’s even better!
  • You don’t like to stand by when you notice that there’s something that could work better for your your BSD team, your Squad or Manulife Bank.  You want to improve things – and you do something about it!
  • You know how to build successful relationships with your coworkers – whether they are sitting across the table from you - or across the globe.  You mesh naturally in an environment with geographically and culturally diverse cross-functional teams.
  • You already know a bit about financial services and Bank products and the types of technology solutions that allow a Business to manage them.

What’s next?
