What is the Business Systems Analyst - FTS - FTS Program Management Office group is responsible for?

  • The Business Analyst, Shared Services Support PMO is responsible for being a subject matter expert (SME) with regards to the business logic embedded within FTS supported systems. This SME knowledge is used to support queries from business units on information within the production environment and provide a central point of contact to ensure quick turnaround of critical issues, system enhancements, and with the identification and correction of system bugs. SME knowledge is also used extensively in support of initiatives contributing to FTS Corporate Priorities. The Business Analyst will be responsible and accountable for the delivery and quality of business logic enhancements and project efforts.

  • The Business Analyst provides the FTS with efficient business/systems solutions by capturing, documenting and utilizing FTS knowledge assessing operational needs to improve efficiency, workflow and cost reductions in achieving FTS goals. This role relies on SME FTS system/business knowledge/background/experience and sound judgment to plan and accomplish goals. The PMO Business Analyst works independently representing the PMO group to clients within simple initiatives and working under the supervision of a more senior PMO team member when interacting with clients in more complex system work.

What are the ongoing responsibilities of the Business Systems Analyst - FTS?

Business Unit Consultation:

  • Assist in analyzing and reviewing business/system requirements.

  • Assist in System Education of Business Units where needed, ensuring previous issues/questions are transparent to users to avoid duplication of queries.

  • Analyze workflow and make recommendations for implementing improvements related to business processes.

System enhancement and implementation:

  • Participation in Project lifecycle which may include meetings regarding CBAs, Charters, Project Plans. 

  • Participate in solution review meetings.

  • Coordinate and communicate with users, System Administration and/or FTT team members to implement system changes.

  • Create test plans and test cases.

  • Track and resolve testing issues with users and project team.

  • Coordinate and perform user acceptance testing for new systems and/or existing system enhancements.

  • Assist with communication between business units & FTT on issues enhancement and implementation.

  • Assist users with post implementation issues.

  • Create simple functional and report specifications for systems and applications.

  • Pull and format data information from systems for Business Unit metrics.

  • Ensure Development Environment changes to production are ready for implementation (e.g. rules, reports, account set ups etc) and provide necessary sign off on release IDs. 

Business Support/System Support and Solutions:

  • Act as initial point of contact for user support queries, responding to support queries where possible, or escalating queries within the team senior staff.

  • Maintain existing systems reports, assist with amendments and new report requests.

  • Participates in discussions to identify root causes of business or technical problems.

  • Assist with the identification of system bugs/enhancements & perform write ups.  Work with FTT/Business to ensure awareness & assign appropriate business priority levels.  Establish workaround if needed.

  • Design and write reports to extract data from databases.

  • Assist with monthly Release Testing for bugs/enhancements, working closely with FTT.

  • Assist with the structured documentation and procedures of FTS system business logic, and changes to business logic within FTS systems.  Update PMO WIKI as necessary.

  • Review, develop, produce and/or analyze management reports for monitoring process efficiencies and effectiveness as applicable. 

Workflow Analysis:

  • Responsible for gathering and document business processes/systems requirements.

  • Responsible for making recommendations for implementing improvements related to business processes.

  • Responsible for analyzing workflow and propose improvements.

  • Responsible and accountable for reviewing, developing, producing and/or analyzing management reports for monitoring process efficiencies and effectiveness as applicable. 

Other duties:

  • Maintain good working relationships with project team members, internal customers and partners, and external service vendors.

  • Perform other duties as requested by PMO Management.

  • Seek training opportunities to ensure continual improvement.

  • Complete Tracking for own IPP.

What ideal qualifications, skills & experience would help someone to be successful?

  • Strong working knowledge of FTS Systems (i.e. Dimension, OneTIS, and Information Mosaic), familiarity with other FTS Core Systems, System workflow & System Data is a requirement Strong working knowledge or experience in business analysis for projects, working with financial and /; or securities systems and related reporting tools

  • Technical writing/training, when required

  • Strong working knowledge of investment management operations, systems and Microsoft Office applications.

  • Ability to perform computer systems and process analysis, data analysis, and conversion of data

  • Strong working knowledge of Securities, financial services, or accounting industry

  • Bachelor's degree / associate's degree or 2 to 4 years of relevant experience
