Our vision is to transform how the world uses information to enrich life for all.

Micron Technology is a world leader in innovating memory and storage solutions that accelerate the transformation of information into intelligence, inspiring the world to learn, communicate and advance faster than ever.

As a Computer Architect Engineering Intern in Micron's Scalable Memory Systems group, you will be part of a hardware engineering team in a pathfinding and strategy organization that is exploring future memory architectures for high-performance compute (HPC) and artificial intelligence (AI) systems.

You will support investigating and modeling emerging memory technologies and how they affect performance of applications.  Additionally, you will work with a team of experienced computer architects to draw conclusions about the effectiveness of these new technologies.

Required knowledge and skills:

  • Knowledge of CPU and GPU architecture
  • Understanding of links used in modern systems such as PCIe, Ethernet, NVLink etc.
  • Understanding of performance characteristics of different memory types e.g. HBM, DDR DRAM, NAND Flash
  • Able to construct models of multiple types to evaluate performance (spreadsheet models, coded models, simulators, etc.)
  • Understanding of software benchmarking and measurement e.g. profiling and instrumentation for performance simulation
  • Ability to collaborate with senior computer architects in constructing, implementing and drawing conclusions from models

Desired knowledge and skills:

  • Understanding of Operating System memory management concepts e.g. Page Cache and non-uniform memory access (NUMA)
  • Understanding of Deep Neural Network (DNN) concepts

Tasks:

  • Working with senior architects, determine the correct model type and construct a model of a system where the memory location, sizes and performance parameters can be traded off
  • Evaluate application performance trade-offs by varying size and performance of various memory pools using the constructed model
  • Write a clear report and present results
  • Iterate as needed to find optimal solutions

Education:

  • Seeking a Masters or PhD candidate
  • Must not graduate before Fall 2025
