Job description:

The Canada Controllership specialist is the Country Controller’s right-hand person with core responsibility over Controllership Operations. The primary objective is to make the Controller successful through enabling collaborative and effective teaming with a focus on business advisory.

Responsibilities:

  • Support and enable the Country Controller to be successful.

  • Overall management over core Canada controllership activities, including US GAAP, V&A integrations, Canadian tax compliance, audits and Québec e-business tax credits, and oversight of RTP, T&E, OTC and R&A.

  • Responsibility for government audits (federal and provincial) and support of internal controls and audits.

  • Manage the relationship with MU Finance on a day-to-day basis; instill and nurture a strong business partnership.

  • Identification of scope expansion possibilities and management of projects to implement same.

  • Coaching, mentoring and supporting function leads to ensure long-term performance of the team.

  • Handle escalated queries and build strong country-based knowledge.

  • Ensure that all reporting, deliverables and compliance are accurate and issued and filed on a timely basis.

  • Participate in continuous quality improvement projects.

Skills:

  • Ability to coach, counsel, develop and motivate a team (India-based) to achieve results.

  • In-depth knowledge of General Ledger principles, Accenture policies and procedures and SAP FICO.

  • Strong communication, facilitation, interpersonal and project management skills.

  • Analytical and research skills and ability to identify the key messages to draw from data.

  • Strong ownership mentality with initiative and high-quality work standard

  • Fluency in English.

  • Computer Literacy: experience with SAP FICO and office automation applications such as SharePoint.

  • Strong team working skills and positive attitude

  • Professional qualities include problem solving, initiative, innovation, leadership, flexibility, openness to innovation and new technologies and professional skepticism.

Stakeholders:

  • Reports to: Canada Country Controller

  • Supervises: teams based in India that supports Canada Controllership

  • Close collaboration with other finance functions: Global Controllership, Tax, Treasury, CFM, MU Finance, Client and Delivery Teams, and Commercial and Operations Team.

  • External federal and provincial auditors

  • Other controllership supporting towers and local controllership teams globally.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting

  • 6+ years of progressive financial accounting experience

  • Experience of external government audits and financial reporting

  • Chartered Professional Accountant (CPA) (or equivalent)

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Strong technical knowledge of US GAAP

  • In-depth knowledge of balance sheet, income statement and trial balance principles

  • Working knowledge of Canadian income and sales tax

  • Supervisory and project management experience

  • Experience of working with a multi-country team
