The Allegro team is united by a clear purpose—advancing technologies that make the world safer, more efficient, and more sustainable. With over 30 years of experience in semiconductor innovation, we bring that purpose to life across every part of the business—from breakthrough product development and customer success to how we show up for each other and the communities we serve.
The Opportunity
As the Senior Lead, Failure Analysis, you will be a paramount technical and strategic leader within our Quality and Engineering organizations. You will be responsible for providing expert oversight, guidance, and leadership to the Failure Analysis team, driving the most complex and critical investigations into semiconductor device failures, field returns, and manufacturing excursions. This role demands a profound understanding of failure mechanisms, advanced analytical techniques, and the ability to not only lead a team of highly skilled engineers but also to significantly influence product design, manufacturing processes, and overall quality strategies. You will be instrumental in preventing future failures, accelerating product development cycles, and upholding Allegro's reputation for world-class reliability.
What You Will Do
Provide senior technical leadership and strategic direction to the Failure Analysis team, overseeing the most challenging and high-impact investigations.
Drive the development and implementation of advanced failure analysis methodologies, cutting-edge techniques, and state-of-the-art laboratory capabilities to meet evolving product and technology needs.
Lead and mentor a team of Failure Analysis Engineers and Leads, fostering a culture of technical excellence, continuous learning, and innovation.
Oversee the prioritization, execution, and reporting of all failure analysis activities, ensuring timely and accurate root cause identification for critical product issues.
Act as a primary technical liaison with cross-functional teams, including Design, Product, Test, Process, Quality, Reliability, and Customer Support, translating complex FA findings into actionable insights and driving collaborative solutions.
Champion the systematic application of advanced problem-solving methodologies (e.g., 8D, FMEA, FTA) to prevent recurrence of failures and drive continuous product and process improvements.
Develop and deliver comprehensive technical reports, presentations, and executive summaries to internal stakeholders and external customers, effectively communicating complex FA results and recommendations.
Manage and optimize the FA laboratory operations, including equipment selection, maintenance, calibration, and adherence to safety and quality standards.
Stay at the forefront of industry trends, emerging failure analysis techniques, and new technologies, evaluating their applicability and recommending strategic investments for Allegro.
Contribute significantly to the definition and refinement of design-for-reliability and design-for-testability guidelines based on extensive failure analysis insights.
What You Will Bring
Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Electronics Engineering, Materials Science, Physics, or a closely related technical field. A Master's degree or Ph.D. is highly preferred.
A minimum of ten (10) to fifteen (15) years of progressive experience in semiconductor failure analysis, with at least five (5) years in a lead or senior leadership capacity.
Demonstrated expert-level proficiency in a comprehensive range of non-destructive and destructive failure analysis techniques and equipment for complex semiconductor devices (e.g., advanced SEM/EDX, FIB, EMMI, OBIRCH, AFM, advanced electrical characterization).
Deep understanding of semiconductor device physics, integrated circuit design, advanced manufacturing processes (wafer fabrication, assembly, test), and sophisticated failure mechanisms.
Proven track record of successfully leading and resolving highly complex root cause investigations, resulting in significant product or process improvements.
Exceptional leadership, communication (both written and verbal), and interpersonal skills, with the ability to influence, negotiate, and build strong relationships across all levels of the organization and with external partners.
Superior analytical and critical thinking abilities, capable of synthesizing vast amounts of data into clear, concise, and actionable strategic recommendations.
Extensive experience in mentoring, coaching, and developing technical talent within a failure analysis or related engineering discipline.
