BASIC REQUIREMENTS:

  • Educational and Experience: High school diploma or equivalent, with hands-on experience in machinery maintenance, particularly in a production environment.
  • Technical Proficiency: Demonstrated ability to diagnose, repair, rebuild, and replace components and systems on various machine tools, equipment, and mechanical systems, using both manual and CNC/DNC machine tools and hydraulic systems.
  • Tools and Equipment Handling: Skilled in operating machine tools such as lathes, mills, drill presses, power saws, and automatic testing instruments (e.g., dwell tachometer, timing light), along with proficiency in using hand tools and measuring instruments like wrenches, torque wrenches, micrometers, and dial indicators.
  • Preventive Maintenance and Troubleshooting: Experience in conducting daily preventive maintenance, overall inspection, repair, and general maintenance of machinery. Ability to troubleshoot and repair components like steam cleaners, paint booths, blast booths, pumps, and other related machinery.
  • Collaborative Skills: Ability to work collaboratively with a team, directing others assigned to help, and partnering with senior mechanics in complex tasks like leveling, scraping, aligning machine parts, and maintaining inventory of frequently used parts.
  • Safety and Regulatory Compliance: Knowledgeable in adhering to safety regulations and procedures, performing daily preventive maintenance, and ensuring all safety devices are operational. Commitment to quality standards and continuous improvement initiatives.

PRIMARY FUNCTION:
Diagnose and determine cause and location of failures, malfunctions, and perform the operations necessary to repair, rebuild, replace equipment, components and systems on machine tools, equipment, stationary engines, tube expanders, robotic cutting machines, hydrostatic pressure test systems, high pressure media blast and paint delivery systems, paint abatement systems, mechanized material handling carts, mechanized assembly fixtures, ovens, furnaces, steam clean systems, and other mechanical drive, hydraulic and pneumatic systems (e.g.; air compressors tied to equipment / machines) used in production where methods, tools and instructions are normally not provided.


TOOLS AND EQUIPMENT:
Machine tools, such as lathe, mill, drill press and power saw. Automatic testing instruments, such as dwell, tachometer, and timing light. Various hand tools and measuring instruments, such as, wrenches, torque wrench, micrometers, dial indicators, assist with theodolite optical beaming equipment (metrology), laser interferometer safety equipment, etc.


MATERIAL:
Ferrous and non-ferrous materials, pipe, bearings, lubricating and cooling liquids. Various manual and CNC/DNC machine tools, hydraulic systems, replacement parts, gear box, etc.

Direct others assigned to help.
WORKING PROCEDURE:
THE FOLLOWING ARE THE USUAL MAJOR JOB DUTIES BUT THIS DESCRIPTION DOES NOT PRECLUDE THE PERFORMANCE OF OTHER DUTIES BY THE INCUMBENT, NOR THE QUESTION BEING RAISED ON THE PROPER RATE FOR THE ASSIGNMENT.

1. Receive work assignment from supervision.

2. Follow and adhere to all Plant Rules, Plant Safety Rules and Regulations.

3. Read, understand, and follow safety regulations and procedures, drawings, specifications, work authorizations, and service manuals.

4. Conduct daily preventive maintenance which will include overall inspection, repair, and general maintenance.

5. Collaborate in diagnosing equipment, component and system failures, malfunctions and identify defective parts.

6. Remove and replace defective parts or make or repair parts by setting up and operating various

machines to turn, bore, drill, mill and tap to size.

7. Troubleshoot / repair steam cleaners, paint booths, blast booths, pumps, and other components.

8. Collaborate with senior mechanics in leveling, scrape and align ways, beds and spindles and realign tailstocks. Make, install and scrape

bearings requiring precise and accurate workmanship.

9. Maintain inventory of frequently used parts, such as, bearings, seals, plugs, hoses, clamps, wire

valves, water pumps, voltage regulators, fluids and fittings.

10. Maintain and repair lubricating, hydraulic and cooling systems on machine tools, equipment,

stationary engines and rolling stock by checking and replenishing fluid, setting and adjusting for

proper flow rates and performance.

11. Check machine, equipment and stationary engines for proper operation in accordance

with preventative maintenance programs and schedules.

12. Check work, fits, wear and operation using measuring instruments, tools, gauges, etc.

13. Collaborate with mounting and leveling machines tools by placing on previously located studs by shimming under pads as required.

14. Dissemble and assemble machines, equipment and components under the direction of the senior

Maintenance Mechanic and lift, move, position and bolt together parts. Obtain materials, parts and tools as directed.

15. Maintain tools, equipment and work area in a clean and orderly condition.

16. Make proper time charge entries and record data as required.

17. Perform work of equal or lower classification as required.

18. Ensure scheduled and unscheduled work is correctly documented and closed out if applicable in Maintenance Connection.
