At Blue Origin, we envision millions of people living and working in space for the benefit of Earth. We’re working to develop reusable, safe, and low-cost space vehicles and systems within a culture of safety, collaboration, and inclusion. Join our diverse team of problem solvers as we add new chapters to the history of spaceflight!

This role supports the development and operations of New Glenn, a single-configuration, heavy-lift orbital launch vehicle capable of routinely carrying people and payloads to low-Earth orbit, geostationary transfer orbit, cislunar, and beyond. Its first stage is fully reusable, and the vehicle was designed from the beginning to be human-capable.

We are a diverse team of collaborators, doers, and problem-solvers who are relentlessly committed to a culture of safety. This position will directly impact the history of space exploration and will require your commitment and detailed attention towards safe and repeatable space flight. Join us in lowering the cost of access to space and enabling Blue Origin’s vision of millions of people living and working in space to benefit Earth

As part of a small cross-functional team, you will design, implement, verify, and integrate mission-critical software across the New Glenn ground and marine subsystems. You will be responsible for the full life-cycle of software components that monitor and control the autonomous spacecraft and supporting ground systems. In this hands-on position, you will collaborate with and support avionics subsystem owners, integration and test engineers, and operations personnel to design and integrate fully-qualified software.

We are looking for someone to apply their technical expertise, leadership skills, and commitment to quality to positively impact safe human spaceflight. Passion for our mission and vision is required!

Responsibilities:

  • Work with internal stakeholders to define requirements, dependencies, and schedule needs associated with delivering systems
  • Define and develop verifiable requirements and software designs
  • Write code to implement designs in C/C++
  • Design and write tests to assure code meets safety critical standards and functions
  • Support hardware/software and system integration activities

Qualifications:

  • Minimum of B.S. in electrical or software engineering or related field, or equivalent years of professional experience (typically 3+)
  • 2+ years of (additional) professional software development experience
  • Experience developing software in C / C++ and Python
  • Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills
  • Passion for hands-on problem solving and software integration and test
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team on rapid development programs
  • Ability to travel and work at remote sites supporting test integration, operations, and training
  • Must be a U.S. citizen or national, U.S. permanent resident (current Green Card holder), or lawfully admitted into the U.S. as a refugee or granted asylum

Desired:

  • 3+ years of industry software development experience
  • Experience developing safety-critical systems (automotive, aerospace, medical, etc.)
  • Experience with networking protocols (TCP/IPv4) for distributed systems, network security, data encryption, compression, etc.
  • Experience with any of: embedded C/C++, Allen-Bradley PLCs, Linux, real-time operating systems, Qt
  • Familiarity with the following preferred tools: DOORS or DNG, Makefiles, Linker Scripts, Doxygen, Jenkins, GitLab, Docker, Bash, and JIRA/Confluence
