Compensation Overview
The annual base salary range provided for this position is a nationwide market range and represents a broad range of salaries for this role across the country. The actual salary for this position will be determined by a number of factors, including the scope, complexity and location of the role; the skills, education, training, credentials and experience of the candidate; and other conditions of employment. As part of our comprehensive compensation and benefits program, employees are also eligible for performance-based cash incentive awards.

The International Finance group at Travelers is looking for a driven individual to join the accounting team. This team serves as the steward of our financial information and controls to ensure compliance with all internal policies and external requirements. The team creates transparency about the health of the company by providing timely, accurate, and actionable information to all stakeholders. As a Sr Accountant, you will be responsible for timely and accurate books and records for reporting to both internal and external parties while maintaining a strong control environment. Leveraging your accounting background, you will conduct financial activities such as preparing, evaluating, and completing financial activities including journal entries, payment requests, and reconciliations.
Being a part of the International Finance team offers insight into operating in a multinational environment and exposure to all three of Travelers’ business segments. This individual will partner with home office and foreign finance partners as well as corporate support areas including Statutory and Tax.
What Will You Do?
- Compile, review, and analyze financial data for variance analysis, reporting, and accuracy.
- Support intercompany services & reinsurance transactions between our foreign subsidiaries by recording activity in compliance with intercompany agreements and prepare quarterly invoicing. Also support tax compliance around transfer pricing, foreign business travel and other statutory requirements.
- Prepare Account Reconciliations in line with established policies, and where necessary identify and resolve balance differences. In addition, support quality assurance reviews over account reconciliations.
- Prepare and begin to create analyses to support financial/business budgets.
- Process expenses in accordance with the established expense policy and procedures which includes processing invoices on a timely basis and ensuring banking and supplier information is accurate.
- Review external financial statements which may include GAAP (Generally Accepted Accounting Principles), SEC and STAT (Statutory Accounting Principles), IFRS (International Financial Reporting Standards) .
- Perform financial controls in accordance with Sarbanes-Oxley requirements consistent with corporate policies and standards.
- Prepare and review documentation to support internal and external audits.
- May provide coaching, training, and mentoring.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
What Will Our Ideal Candidate Have?
- Bachelor's degree in finance, accounting, economics, and/or professional designations, such as CPA, CMA or comparable advanced professional education.
- Experience with accounting theory and practice.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to collaborate effectively with business partners.
- Ability to analyze data to interpret trends and provide insights to management.
- Strong organizational and time management skills with the ability to handle shifting priorities.
- Ability to foresee challenges and proactively look for ways to create more efficient processes for the business.
- Experience using Microsoft Office (e.g., Excel, Word, Outlook, PowerPoint) and Financial Reporting Software (e.g., TM1, Essbase, Hyperion, etc.).
