International Security Agent

REPORTS TO

Passenger Service Lead

JOB PURPOSE

American Airlines International Security Agent ensures the safety of passengers, crew, and aircraft. He /She would be responsible for screening passengers, baggage, and cargo to detect any security threats. As an agent they are to follow strict security rules and regulations to ensure compliance. They work to prevent any potential risks by spotting suspicious behavior and identifying threats early. Additionally, they assist passengers with security procedures while keeping things efficient and smooth. Their primary goal is to maintain a safe and secure environment, following international security standards.

Duties & Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

1)         Assist with Security Checks:

SATISFACTORY PERFORMANCE WILL HAVE BEEN ATTAINED WHEN

  • Help with security screening of passengers, baggage, and cargo at Hewanorra International Airport.
  • Operate and monitor screening equipment such as X-ray machines and metal detectors, ensuring that items comply with safety regulations.
  • Enforce American Airlines security rules by verifying passengers' identification and ensuring they follow all safety measures before boarding.

Support In-Flight Security:

SATISFACTORY PERFORMANCE WILL HAVE BEEN ATTAINED WHEN

  • Monitor passenger behavior during flights to identify potential security risks.
  • Assist the cabin crew in ensuring the safety and comfort of passengers throughout the flight.

Learn Security Procedures:

SATISFACTORY PERFORMANCE WILL HAVE BEEN ATTAINED WHEN

  • Participate in training sessions focused on aviation safety, threat detection, emergency procedures, and handling security risks.
  • Gain knowledge of security threats, such as terrorism or disruptive passengers, and how to handle these situations while maintaining a calm demeanor.
  • Study and follow international aviation security standards, including TSA and ICAO guidelines.

Assist with Reporting:

SATISFACTORY PERFORMANCE WILL HAVE BEEN ATTAINED WHEN

  • Document and report security incidents, including any irregularities or concerns related to passengers or baggage, to senior security staff or management.
  • Assist in writing and maintaining security reports, ensuring accurate records of all incidents, actions taken, and outcomes.

Attend flight and staff briefing as required by American Airline.

SATISFACTORY PERFORMANCE WILL HAVE BEEN ATTAINED WHEN

  • Daily briefing is attended prior to the arrival of assigned flight.
  • Valuable contributions and suggestions are highlighted and addressed in the briefing to the benefit of all.
  • Matters arising from briefing are followed by all.
  • A high level of professionalism and integrity is maintained on the job.

  6.       To perform any other duties as directed by Management.

Qualifications & Skills

Education and qualifications

Five (5) CXC subjects, with minimum Grade 2 pass or equivalent. English, Information Technology and Mathematics or Accounts are required subjects.

Skills/Competencies

Attention to Detail:

  • The ability to stay focused and detect potential security threats, even in busy or stressful environments.
  • Being thorough in performing security checks, making sure that all safety regulations are followed.

Communication:

  • Clear and professional communication with passengers, crew members, and colleagues.
  • Ability to explain security procedures to passengers and address their concerns calmly.

Problem-Solving:

  • Remain calm and make quick, effective decisions in emergency situations.
  • Respond appropriately to security threats or incidents, helping to de-escalate situations as needed.

Teamwork:

  • Ability to work well as part of a team with other security agents, passenger service agents, fleet service agents, crew chiefs, crew members, and airport staff.
  • Help coordinate with other departments (e.g., flight attendants, law enforcement) when needed.

Physical Stamina:

  • Ability to stand for long periods of time during security screenings and while monitoring passengers.
  • Comfort with performing physical tasks, such as lifting items for security checks, or assisting in emergency evacuations if necessary.

Experience

• One year working experience in an Airline Customer Service or Transportation Industry would be an asset.

Physical requirements

Flexible hours: You’ll need to work shifts, which may include nights, weekends, and availability to work Overtime as required

High-pressure environment: The job may involve handling stressful situations, especially during security incidents or emergencies.
