The Opportunity:
- The contractor shall provide a variety of direct legal support assistance to the United States Citizenship and Immigration Service including monitoring and managing asylum litigation cases.
- Basic duties include organizing, updating and ensuring completeness of individual litigation files, monitoring attorney duty mailboxes to identify new mandamus litigation filings, recording cases in data management systems, and forwarding the cases to the appropriate parties as required.
Responsibilities:
- Works under the direction of Supervisory Paralegal or Project Supervisor. Performs the following tasks while complying with established procedures:
- Review, monitor, provide basic legal research and ensure communication between the Department of Justice and USCIS for mandamus lawsuits previously determined to be non-defensible pursuant to OCC policy. Paralegals will conduct all necessary basic research and correspondence between the DOJ and the USCIS operational client to see the case through to completion (final decision by judge or voluntary dismissal) and notify an OCC attorney if there are any legal issues with the adjudication of the case or any other problems
- Compile, prepare, and summarize relevant materials for use by attorneys in in preparation of status conferences, motions, briefs, and other legal documents.
- Use legal research tools such as LEXIS and Westlaw to perform basic legal research as it relates to the Mandamus litigation
- Use a variety of computer applications, including word processing, databases (such as document review and file management systems), spreadsheets, imaging, and hardware systems
Qualifications:
Required:
- Requires paralegal certificate, JD, or currently attending an ABA-accredited law school, having completed at least one year of study. One
year of legal training or legal experience or at least two years of college education may be substituted for the paralegal certificate. - Additionally, at least one year of litigation paralegal experience or project experience (as related to the task order) is required; trial experience very helpful.
- Automated litigation support experience valued.
- Must have basic legal knowledge, including knowledge of standard legal citation to cite check legal motions and memorandum and must have sufficient experience with legal research tools such as LEXIS and Westlaw to perform basic legal research.
- Requires excellent written and oral communication skills, thorough knowledge and hands-on familiarity with a variety of computer applications, including word processing, databases (such as document review and file management systems), spreadsheets, imaging, and hardware systems.
- Role also requires basic familiarity with ESI tools and knowledge of eDiscovery procedures and resources.
- Ability to consistently deliver highest quality work under extreme pressure will be very important.
- Some physical exertion such as moderate periods of standing; or recurring activities such as bending, crouching, stooping, stretching, reaching; pushing supply carts; or recurring lifting (up to 50lbs) of moderately heavy items such as boxes of cases or supplies
- DOJ MBI must be obtainable (US Citizenship required).
Desired:
- Experience with managing complex tickler files in Excel or other software is helpful.

Pay Range:
This posting is for a position covered by the Service Contract Labor Standards (SCA). The pay and benefits provided for this position will meet or exceed the minimum required amounts detailed in the wage determination issued by the Department of Labor and made applicable to this position, as incorporated into CACI’s government contract for the work location.
Minimum Required Hourly Wage:
$24.57
