SUMMARY

The Senior (Sr.) Application Engineer will join a group of IT professionals focusing on all phases of application development ensuring development standards and best practices are consistently followed. JOANN utilizes application software from industry-leading enterprise vendors such as: Workday, SAP XI/PI, IBM B2BI, and Lightwell . As a Senior team member within the IT organization, this role will contribute daily to the health and welfare of JOANN's IT systems. This role will be responsible for the creation of solutions for our customers both internal and external by driving the development of detailed configuration parameters, custom extensions, workflows and integration solutions. This role will also be required to work very closely with cross-functional organizations to understand overall strategies and objectives as they relate to the entire application portfolio and advise on recommended approaches.

The Sr. Application Engineer will be looked to as the source of knowledge for the application portfolio, as well as the subject matter expert on how the specific application can/should be leveraged to meet business process objectives. Responsibilities extend to the Store Support Center (SSC), 3 distribution centers and multi-channel retail practices through over 820 stores and joann.com. The total user environment consists of over 18,000 team members.

JOB DUTIES

  • SAP XI/PI:  XML/XSLT stylesheet coding, Knowledge of common SAP XI/PI adapters/comm channels, Knowledge of design side objects of SAP XI/PI
  • IBM B2Bi and Lightwell: Knowledge of ANSI X12 EDI formatting, transactions in SAP ECC, WE02, ME23N and SMQ1 / SMQ2

  • Application Design:
    • Architects and designs software solutions which support the functional specifications and framework of our IT strategy and technical platform.
    • Ensures technical solution designs are consistent with departmental standards.
  • Work directly with business and technology partners to understand strategies/objectives and resulting requirements for specific application.
  • Application Build:
    • Builds solutions either through application configuration or coding that meet or exceed documented business requirements.
    • Configuration and code development of applications that conform with development standards and sound coding practices.
    • Ensures functional and technical development requirements for application modifications and integrations conform to application development standards.
    • Systems Testing- In cooperation with other IT teams, plans, designs and executes end-to-end tests that ensure solution design and implementation meet or exceed the documented solution requirements.
  • Systems Support:
    • Provides support for current production systems.
    • Resolves problems and incidents in compliance with established resolution SLAs.
    • Determines and documents root cause of problems.
    • Works to improve systems and processes to enforce simplicity, stability and efficiency.
    • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills are required in addition to excellent verbal and written communication skills.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

At the discretion of an IT Manager, the Sr. position may assist in the development and coaching of other Application Developers.

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE

Education Minimum: Bachelor's Degree in computer science, business or related field

Experience Required: 3-5 years of relevant professional experience.

Experience Preferred: 10+ years of relevant technology experience in a large retail environment.
