The Opportunity

We are looking for a driven and innovative Intern Data Scientist to join our Regional Advanced Analytics team at Manulife. You will play a pivotal role in BU level analytics solution development and commercialization activities that transformed analytical concepts into business actions with measurable benefits.

Responsibilities:

  • Assist with the development and implementation of predictive and prescriptive models.
  • Provide support on create statistically rigorous model scripts to support various business initiatives.
  • Support the team in conducting quantitative analyses to facilitate effective targeting, segmentation, and identification of opportunities to improve customer retention, optimize marketing programs, and enhance operational efficiency.
  • Assist in analyzing and interpreting large datasets to uncover actionable insights that inform marketing strategies and enhance overall business performance and ROI.
  • Work with team members and IT to support ongoing Azure cloud migration efforts, focusing on data validation to maintain data integrity.
  • Help identify data optimization and monetization opportunities.
  • Assist in sourcing external data to enhance our analytics database.
  • Support data governance initiatives to ensure data quality and compliance.
  • Keep abreast of current trends in the analytics field.
  • Share new ideas and methodologies with the team to continuously improve our strategies.

We are looking for someone with:  

  • A university degree or currently pursuing a degree in Data Science, Computer Science, Mathematics, Engineering, Statistics, or a related field.
  • Proficiency in data wrangling, preprocessing, and visualization, with a focus on understanding customer data and global scaling.
  • Familiarity with machine learning techniques and the project lifecycle, from data collection and preprocessing to model development, validation, and deployment.
  • Knowledge of programming languages such as Python, PySpark, and SQL.
  • Some exposure to big data processing frameworks and platforms like Azure, Databricks, or Spark.
  • Good communication skills, with the ability to explain data concepts to both technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Strong problem-solving abilities and a willingness to learn and take initiative.
  • Attention to detail and organizational skills, with a desire to produce high-quality work and scripts.
