A Registered Nurse (RN) in the Operating Room at Cleveland Clinic Martin South circulates a large variety of Orthopedic surgical cases in the 4-suite Operating Room Department, including but not limited to total joint replacements, arthroscopies, and sports medicine injuries, following established standards, department guidelines and hospital policies and procedures. The opportunity to be trained as a scrub nurse is available.  The RN will use their strong assessment and critical thinking skills to collaborate with the multi-disciplinary team in order to provide the best outcomes for each patient. This role plays an integral part in ensuring patient advocacy and safety. 

The hours of this full-time position are primarily four 10-hour day shifts per week, 6:30am to 4:30pm, with evening and weekend on-call requirements. 

Required qualifications for the ideal candidate include:

  • A MINIMUM OF ONE YEAR OF RN EXPERIENCE IN AN OPERATING ROOM IS REQUIRED.
  • Graduate from an accredited school of professional nursing. BSN preferred.
  • Current state licensure as Registered Nurse (RN).
  • Proof of Basic Life Support (BLS) and Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) through American Heart Association (AHA) must be presented upon hire.
  • Can communicate effectively with patients and team members.  
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and take appropriate action.
  • Can critically think and problem-solve for patients’ best interests
  • Can provide emotional, spiritual, and psychological support to patients.

Physical Requirements:  

  • Requires full range of body motion including handling and lifting patient, manual and finger dexterity, and eye-hand coordination.

  • Requires standing and walking for extended periods of time.

  • Requires corrected vision and hearing to normal range.

  • Requires working under stressful conditions and irregular hours.

  • Exposure to communicable diseases and/or body fluids.

  • Medium Work - Exerting 20 to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or 10 to 25 pounds of force frequently, and/or greater than negligible up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects.

  • Physical Demand requirements are in excess of those for Light Work.

Personal Protective Equipment:

  • Follows standard precautions using personal protective equipment as required.
