PRN Anesthesia Technician

An anesthesia technician is responsible for supporting the anesthesiologist and other anesthesiology personnel. This includes the management and maintenance of the equipment used by anesthesiologists. The anesthesia technician is responsible for sterilizing, cleaning, assembling, calibrating, testing, and troubleshooting various pieces of machinery. They may also oversee equipment monitoring a patient actively under anesthesia.
A PRN caregiver in this position works varying shifts as needed.
A caregiver who excels in this role will:
Stock the carts and surgical suites with the required supplies as outlined on the anesthesia surgical suite stock par list.
Assist with difficult airway management by assisting with equipment needs from the providers.
Assist in the delivery of blood samples to the lab and retrieval of blood products.
Disassemble, decontaminate, and sterilize anesthesia equipment and supplies. Report equipment problems to the management team, stock items in the workroom and keep the workroom clean and in an orderly condition.
Perform Point of Care (POCT) testing procedures, after an initial approved competency has been completed.
Effectively communicate with anesthesia and operating room staff to assure daily operating room assignments are prioritized at the start of each shift.
Efficiently transport all anesthesia related equipment and supplies to and from outside of Operating Rooms off-site locations.
Maintain complete and accurate records and check the status of orders and equipment.
Maintain anesthesia supplies by establishing inventory levels, requisitioning supplies and restocking supplies.
Maintain equipment by preparing, testing, and setting up a variety of anesthetic equipment for surgical use, troubleshooting equipment for problems or repairs and performing preventative maintenance and routine cleaning.
Participate in turning over rooms assuring minimal downtime between cases.
Retrieve and appropriately distribute the equipment necessary to prepare a patient for anesthesia. This includes specialty equipment for invasive lines and monitoring, difficult airway, supporting the anesthesia provider by setting up IV's and pediatric procedures.
Retrieve, carry, and appropriately distribute necessary medications to the Anesthesiologist, CRNA, or AA for the preparation or care of a patient for anesthesia.
Minimum qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:
High school diploma or GED.
Successful completion of Basic Life Support (BLS) through American Heart Association (AHA).
One year experience working in a healthcare setting OR successful completion of an accredited Medical Assistant program or similar healthcare-related training program OR a bachelor’s degree.
Preferred qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:
Knowledge of medical terminology.
Knowledge of Microsoft Office applications such as Outlook, Word, Excel, or PowerPoint.
