The Set-Up Operator is responsible for following established procedures and guidelines, and for the complex set-up, inspection, and functioning of production machinery. Assembles mechanical units or fabricated parts to make sub-assemblies or complete products within routine and repetitive assembly operations. Conducts more complex production tasks such as operating multiple machines. Performs minor machine maintenance. Assists in setting up machines. Works at different workstations as production needs require. May train less experienced coworkers. Typically has more than 5 years of experience and works under general direction.KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
Perform complex setups and machine adjustments according to job orders.
Ensure changes on gauges, valves, water level, and lubricants are set to the proper parameters.
Ability to build universal fixtures and manage GIB crane.
Perform changeovers, preventative maintenance, quality tests, and moderate repairs.
Perform more detailed tasks requiring deeper knowledge and experience in the specified processes and procedures.
Set specified feeds, speeds, and depth of cut to specified parameters.
Adjusts controls to set and regulate machining factors, such as pressure, rollers, blade angle, and machine speed.
Performs moderate preventive maintenance and lubrication on equipment.
Must demonstrate good housekeeping practices.
Report existing or potential machine problems to a supervisor or coach.
Other duties as assigned.
EXPERIENCE, EXPERTISE & QUALIFICATIONS:
High School Diploma/GED/Industrial Mechanical Certification (preferred)
3 to 5 years of experience in a manufacturing environment (required)
Thorough understanding and working knowledge of product specifications and procedures, such as dimensions, measurements, tolerances, and tooling instructions
Ability to work in a fast-paced, high-speed environment, follow standardized work and adhere to safe work practices in a continuous improvement environment.
Advanced computer skills and reading skills; the ability to read and understand complex blueprints.
Must possess moderate math skills to include but not limited to, addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, and conversions.
Ability to train others and properly log the progress.
Must know the DataFlo system (or equivalent ERP) to pull and enter data.
Thorough understanding and use of machine tooling.
Proven mechanical aptitude.
Working knowledge of Lockout-Tagout procedure.
Ability to meet production and scrap standards.
Strong work ethics and the ability to multi-task.
Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
PHYSICAL DEMANDS/ WORK ENVIRONMENT:
Must adhere to safety standards and wear the correct PPE as specified for the job, inclusive of steel toed shoes and hearing protection.
Repetitive work and long periods of standing, bending, twisting or lifting, need physical stamina and strength.
Must be able to lift, load, unload, push, and pull parts weighing up to 50 pounds.
Hours as assigned with the probability of overtime during the week and on Saturday.
Must be able to work in summer heat and winter cold.
