PRIMARY FUNCTION:  The GSE Mechanic maintains aircraft powered and non-powered ground support equipment in an effective and safe manner acceptable to the Government.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Reports to Back Shop Maintenance Team Lead. 
  • Use NASA’s Automated Maintenance Data System (NAMIS) to maintain equipment records, and document maintenance actions and maintain external fuel and grounding systems.
  • Performs scheduled and unscheduled maintenance on GSE.
  • Inspect, test, and operate GSE daily to determine equipment serviceability and proper operation. (Diesel, Gasoline and Turbine Engine powered).
  • Services equipment with fuel, oil, water, coolant, hydraulic fluid, refrigerant, and compressed air, disassemble and assemble malfunctioning GSE accessories and components.
  • Remove, disassemble, repair, clean, treat for corrosion, assemble, and reinstall GSE components and accessories.
  • Stencils and mark GSE in accordance with technical publications, stores, handles, labels, uses.
  • Disposes of hazardous materials and waste in accordance with all state, local, and federal environmental standards and regulations.
  • Practice good housekeeping, tool control, Foreign Object Damage (FOD) prevention in accordance with company and NASA policies and procedures.
  • Additional responsibilities may include working with a variety of repair and test equipment including welders, torches, pressure testers and electrical testers.
  • Prepares GSE for storage and transportation in support of research program deployment activities.
  • May perform Designated System Inspector (DSI) duties
  • Should be proficient in the maintenance, troubleshooting and repair of aviation ground support equipment such as mobile electric lifts, hydraulic service carts, aircraft fueling equipment and vehicles, electrical ground power units, pneumatic supply units, and other aircraft servicing equipment including oxygen service equipment, potable water and lavatory service equipment.
  • Provide aircraft ground support duties, including towing, marshalling and jacking aircraft.
  • Assist with aircraft maintenance inspections and repairs as required.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

May be assigned Crew Lead duties per the Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA).

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, & ABILITIES:

  • Beginner to intermediate computer skills specifically using Microsoft Office Suite.  Ability to learn additional computer skills or software programs. Working knowledge of advanced software applications is preferred.
  • Ability to enter data accurately into databases.
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
  • Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.
  • Interpersonal skills are necessary to work effectively and cooperatively with all levels of management and staff. Will also routinely interact with other crew members.
  • Must possess effective oral and technical written communication skills to clearly communicate information to others.
  • Ability to use general office equipment such as fax, phone, copier, scanner, printers, etc.
  • Ability to follow a process.
  • Strong professional customer service skills, including active listening, prompt service and follow-up.
  • Strong decision analysis and problem solving skills; ability to draw conclusions and justify decisions. Must be able to communicate issues to management.
    • Ability to learn and understand corporate policies and procedures and how they relate to Yulista Solutions, LLC goals.
    • Ability to perform basic mathematical computations.
    • High degree of self-motivation and the ability to work independently.
    • Ability to multi-task.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • FAA A&P Certificate Desired.
  • 5+ years of experience in aviation ground support equipment powered and non-powered.
  • Electrical and basic electronic skills are highly desirable.
  • Should be proficient in the maintenance, troubleshooting and repair of aviation ground support equipment such as mobile electric lifts, hydraulic service carts, aircraft fueling equipment and vehicles, electrical ground power units, pneumatic supply units, and other aircraft servicing equipment including oxygen service equipment, potable water and lavatory service equipment.
  • Experience supporting a NASA/DoD contract.
  • Must have the ability to obtain and maintain a Government Security Clearance.
