Job Description:

In Group Disability, we serve more than 5 million Canadians - plan members and their dependents - through our more than 11,000 group benefit plans across the country. Our customers include employees, associations, affinity groups and creditors in virtually every industry in Canada, and we're proud to be their benefits provider.

The Referral Management team supports Group Disability in the interactions and use of services from third party providers. 

The Disability Associate is an integral member of Group Disability Operations and is responsible for the coordination of various activities in support of clients and group disability operations.

What will you do?

This role impacts our Plan Members, Plan Sponsors, and internal partners and has a significant impact on our ability to proactively manage our disability claims and provide excellent customer service to our clients.

As this is a combination of client facing and internal partner facing role, the people in this role must be able to provide assistance and resources within their scope, as well as understand when they need to forward a situation to a Disability Case Manager for further investigation or handling. Disability Associates are in direct daily contact with our clients and it is imperative that they are knowledgeable, professional and have the ability to pivot as a situation requires.

  • Ensure the appropriate assignment, scheduling and routing of referrals
  • Validation of received data and reports
  • Validation/creation of supporting documentation files
  • Monitoring and actioning high volume emails
  • Adhoc inquiry support
  • Work auditing
  • Error correction
  • Involvement in the maintenance and ongoing updating and improvement of process documentation
  • Participation in continuous improvement initiatives

The Base Pay range is for the primary location for which the job is posted.  It may vary depending on the work location of the successful candidate or other factors.  In addition to Base Pay, eligible Sun Life employees participate in various incentive plans, payment under which is discretionary and subject to individual and company performance.  Certain sales focused roles have sales incentive plans based on individual or group sales results.
