JOB OVERVIEW:  The Structural Finisher works in the Finishing department and has a minimum of two years of structural fiberglass finishing skills, including major structural fiberglass repairs and a complete understanding of Boston Whalers construction methods.

General Responsibilities and Duties:

    

  • Follow proper safety procedures at all times.
  • Maintain a clean, safe and orderly work area.
  • Finishing defective parts to meet the quality standards of Boston Whaler.
  • Work closely with team lead to ensure production goals are met.
  • Complete appropriate paperwork located in hull construction records.
  • The structural fiberglass finisher will spend 80 – 85% of his/her job responsibilities completing shaping and fiberglass lamination work, including construction of pillars and dive doors.

Experience and Education:

  • Minimum of two years of structural fiberglass finishing skills including shaping and fiberglass lamination work
  • Must have a proven track record.
  • Must possess the ability to identify and repair structural defects using approved Boston Whaler Tapping process.
  • Must possess the ability and skills to perform structural fiberglass repairs to meet the quality standards of Boston Whaler.
  • High school diploma or GED required

Skills and Other Requirements:

  • Must be very coachable, adaptable, and self-motivated.
  • Must show an ability to work independently and with minimal supervision.
  • Must possess strong organizational skills.
  • Must be able to work overtime as required to assure timely completion of projects.
  • Must show an ability to transfer knowledge to line employees through proper training.
  • Must be able to repair colored gelcoat.
  • Must possess the ability to: Repair and Replace non-skid surfaces Identify and Repair laminate / foam delamination, prefab voids, gas bubbles, and structural welds Construct, Shape and Finish dive door including boat opening and dive door Construct and Finish fiberglass pillars to Class A standards Finish structural welds to Class A standards

Physical Requirements

  • Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) requirements could include full face respirators, dust masks, gloves, and chemical resistant suits
  • Ability to work a 10+ hour shift standing, bending, reaching
  • Moderate lifting ability up to 50 lbs.
  • Ability to work in a non-climate controlled environment (may be above 100 ambient degrees or below 10 ambient degrees in areas of production)
  • Ability to work in a fiberglass dust environment and a fast paced, noisy environment
  • Ability to work overtime (planned and unplanned)

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally exposed to moving mechanical parts; high, precarious places; fumes or airborne particles; and toxic or caustic chemicals. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
