What Is the Opportunity?

Travelers are recruiting for a Marketing Director to join our team based in London. This is an exciting role which focuses on marketing strategy, people leadership, budget management, brand development, and executing campaigns but does not involve internal communications or public relations. Experience in insurance and syndicates is highly valued.

The role involves developing and executing marketing strategies and integrated plans to support business objectives for specific local Business Units (BUs) in Europe. It requires collaboration with business, marketing, functional, and enterprise stakeholders to create cross-BU and Europe-wide marketing strategies while maintaining a global perspective through effective communication with peers. The role also includes functional leadership on specific marketing topics across Europe, such as brand, CRM, web, email, mobile, social, data, and content.

Travelers Europe currently offers flexibility to employees who wish to work on a hybrid basis in accordance with our Hybrid Work Arrangements Policy. This entails full time employees working three days a week in the office and two days at home (or pro rata for part-time employees). This policy may be changed at the Company’s discretion.

This role is eligible for a £2500 new joiner bonus. If you are successfully referred by an employee at Travelers Europe, both you and the person who referred you could be eligible for this bonus.

What Will You Do?

BU Marketing Strategy & Program Management:

  • Sets the direction and strategy for marketing within the assigned BU(s) including brand, insight, value proposition & campaigns.

  • Acts as trusted advisor to the assigned business unit(s)(BU). Influences senior leaderships position on issues based on in-depth understanding of the business, its plans, operations, the market and the marketing discipline.

  • Understands the business objectives and priorities, translating them into a strategic integrated marketing plan that supports those objectives and ensures proper execution through the orchestration and oversight of all the supporting marketing activities and resources.

  • Collaborates with functions such as Enterprise Marketing, Digital Marketing, eBusiness, Customer Experience, Operations, Sales & Distribution and Marketing colleagues to ensure a coordinated marketing approach from the strategy through the creation and execution of integrated marketing campaigns, aligned to specific business unit needs.

  • Utilise market research, business insights and analysis to enhance or modify the direction of the BU marketing plan.

  • Work with Enterprise Market Research to incorporate existing and/or new research data into marketing strategy and to identify new business opportunities.

  • Provide outside-in perspective, demonstrating in-depth understanding of the intermediary and customer's view, translating into business advantage.

  • Understand implications of key market and competitive trends.

  • Analyze and understand the implications of key profit and loss contributors. Utilize the business management reports to formulate marketing strategy.

  • Understands and assists with managing the marketing budget for assigned BU(s) and ensure optimal use of all resources. Manages marketing budget for assigned business unit(s).

  • In-depth understanding of target audience, highly effective communication style, and the ability to adapt messaging as appropriate.

  • Sets, tracks & reports on consistent ROI/metrics across all marketing delivery, ensuring ongoing assessment & enhancements applied, key stakeholders engaged and regular analysis.

Functional/Technical Marketing Leadership:

  • Functional leadership & accountability for specific marketing topics Europe-wide, as agreed with the Marketing Director, including but not limited to:

  • Brand: builds clear positioning and connection with the Travelers brand in the market

  • Value Proposition: develops & defines market offer aligned to defined target needs (customer, intermediary, employee)

  • Insight: development of market and customer insight to identify opportunities

  • Digital: CRM, web, email, mobile, social, data, content etc.

  • Events and Sponsorships

  • Media: paid, owned & earned

Collaboration and Partnering for Success:

  • Develop and maintain effective relationships with colleagues, business partners, customers, brokers, regulatory agencies and others as required achieving organizational goals and creating better outcomes.

  • Works closely with marketing and business partners to understand business priorities and objectives .

  • Partner with functional business partners (Product, Distribution and Marketing) in implementing new marketing approaches. Consults on the most complex marketing related requests, tasks and activities and makes recommendations based on the business objectives.

  • Collaborates with Enterprise partners on strategy, brainstorming and execution of owned, earned and paid tactics associated with all initiatives, ranging from transactional to the most complex projects.

  • Consults with the frontline staff regarding the effective use of the campaign material/tactics to enable the sales process.

  • Serve as superior role model of decision-making skills and professional image by seeking and sharing knowledge from experience, and taking responsible risks to improve individual and team performance

  • Represent the Company, ensuring strong business relations, issues and complaints resolution, and the acquisition and retention of profitable business.

  • Manages external agencies & vendors in the support/delivery of integrated marketing strategies.

Program/Project Management:

  • Acts as Program/Project Manager and takes the lead on the more complex projects and campaigns.

  • Accountable for follow up and follow through of all facets of integrated marketing campaign tactics.

  • Contributes to the planning and helps execute the effective development and implementation of longer term marketing projects which have a significant impact on assigned business unit or wider Travelers Europe organization.

Leadership:

  • Stays attuned to relevant market conditions and trends in order to drive effective messaging and tactics to targeted audiences.

  • Partners with Enterprise to bring innovative thought leadership to the business by staying abreast of new marketing concepts, tools and technology and integrating them into the campaign development .

  • As a senior member of the team will take a leadership role in mentoring/coaching new and junior level employees.

  • Recruiting, selection and onboarding of new staff.

  • Coaching, development and performance management of staff.

  • Communicating and implementing strategic marketing plan.

  • Daily direction and work assignments for staff.

  • Workflow and process efficiencies.

  • Other duties as assigned by the Marketing Director.

What Will Our Ideal Candidate Have?

  • Bachelors degree in marketing or other related field.

  • Detailed working and current knowledge of broad marketing disciplines across brand, insight, digital, campaign, communications and analytics.

  • Demonstrated Leadership capabilities.

  • Thorough knowledge of all facets of owned, earned and paid tactics.

  • General knowledge of content writing and tools.

  • General knowledge of multifunctional areas such as: digital execution, promotion, advertising, research, competitive analysis, communications, brand management, website management.

  • General knowledge of insurance or related field. Experience in the Financial Services/Insurance Industry or 3rd Party Distribution model preferred.

  • General knowledge of the business financial drivers, structure and operations.

  • Is up to date with latest marketing tools, concepts and resources.

  • Intermediate understanding of internal business unit organisational structure and how it impacts delivery of marking plan.

  • Demonstrated ability to attract and retain, manage, coach and develop others.

  • Advanced level written and verbal communications skills.
