The Flight Instructor Pilot for the DEA Aviation Operations is responsible for providing high-quality flight instruction to DEA pilots, ensuring they meet all required standards and certifications. This role involves conducting training flights, developing training programs, and maintaining the highest standards of safety and compliance.

THE CHALLENGE (primary responsibilities)

  Flight Instruction:

  • Provide flight instruction to DEA pilots in single-engine, multi-engine, and rotorcraft aircraft.

  • Conduct initial, recurrent, and specialized training flights to ensure pilot proficiency and compliance with FAA regulations and DEA policies.

  • Evaluate pilot performance, identify areas for improvement, and provide constructive feedback.

  Training Program Development:

  • Develop and update training programs and syllabi to meet the evolving needs of the DEA Aviation Operations.

  • Ensure training materials are current and comply with FAA regulations and industry best practices.

  • Incorporate new technologies and methodologies into training programs to enhance pilot skills and knowledge.

  Safety and Compliance:

  • Ensure all flight training activities are conducted in accordance with FAA regulations and DEA policies.

  • Maintain accurate records of all training activities, flight hours, and pilot certifications.

  • Conduct safety briefings and debriefings to ensure a thorough understanding of safety protocols and procedures.

  Operational Support:

  • Assist with the planning and coordination of flight operations as needed.

  • Participate in flight missions as a pilot when required.

  • Support the overall mission of the DEA Aviation Operations through effective training and operational readiness.

WHAT SETS YOU APART (basic qualifications)

  • Requires Bachelor's Degree or equivalent relevant experience and 8 - 12 years of prior relevant experience or Masters with 6 – 10 years of prior relevant experience.

  • The Flight Instructor Pilots shall hold a valid Airline Transport Pilot (ATP) License and possess the following current FAA certified flight instructor ratings:

1. Single Engine Land (SEI)

2. Multi-Engine Land (MEI)

3. Instrumental airplane

4. Rotorcraft helicopter (as applicable)

5. Instrumental helicopter (as applicable)

6. US FAA Certified Flight Instructor CFI-ASEL, AMEL, Helicopter, CFII Airplane and Helicopter Instrument (as applicable)

  • The proposed instructor shall hold a valid first-class FAA medical certificate.

  • The proposed instructor must have no previous aviation accident record.

  • The proposed instructor must not have any history or record of designation or rating suspension or revocation.

  • Flight Instructor Pilots shall be required to support DEA operations worldwide on various length assignments to OCONUS locations. These assignments may include hostile environments and combat zones, as well as CONUS locations.

Preferred, but not required

  • The Flight Instructor Pilots have a minimum of 2,000 hours logged total pilot time with the following minimum experience:

1. 1,000 hours as an instructor to include 250 hours of instrument instruction

2. 500 hours multi-engine pilot-in-command (PIC)

3. 200 hours night.

4. 1,000 hours cross country

5. 250 hours instrument

6. 500 hours turbine engine PIC

7. 200 hours Night Vision Goggle NVG)

  • Spanish speaking ability and foreign flight experience is desired, but not required

Pay Range:

Pay Range $101,400.00 - $183,300.00

The Leidos pay range for this job level is a general guideline only and not a guarantee of compensation or salary. Additional factors considered in extending an offer include (but are not limited to) responsibilities of the job, education, experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities, as well as internal equity, alignment with market data, applicable bargaining agreement (if any), or other law.
